About the Role
We're seeking a skilled Underwriter I or II, Commercial Lines to join our team at Intact. As a key member of our commercial underwriting team, you will play a critical role in helping us deliver exceptional service to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in broker visits, industry functions, and marketing events to support broker relationship development and maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.
- Use negotiation skills to analyze requests for quotes and recommend innovative solutions to complex risks.
- Make recommendations to improve department processes and increase efficiency.
- Focus on building relationships while underwriting and rating policies.
- Provide technical advice, recommendations, and mentoring to team members.
- Assess, evaluate, and negotiate on moderate to complex risks.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education or relevant experience.
- Minimum 1-3 years underwriting experience.
- Strong sales and customer service skills.
- Completion of or progress toward a CIP designation is an asset.
- Maintain an expert and current understanding of all relevant Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions related thereto.
- Demonstrate the ability to handle complex risks.
- Awareness of local community conditions and insurance issues.
- Strong negotiating skills and business acumen.
- Initiative and ability to work under pressure.
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools.
- No Canadian work experience required, but must be eligible to work in Canada.
