As a member of the Medium Enterprise team, you will manage a diverse portfolio of core commercial insurance accounts, demonstrating your underwriting expertise and commitment to exceptional customer service. Your responsibilities will encompass all facets of underwriting for small to mid-sized commercial property and casualty accounts, with premiums reaching up to $25,000. This position allows you to leverage your commercial underwriting acumen in a collaborative team setting. Experience in underwriting new business and managing a varied renewal portfolio is advantageous. We seek insightful, business-oriented underwriters who excel in fostering strong relationships through the daily management of an assigned broker portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and underwrite complex accounts utilizing critical thinking and risk evaluation, while aligning with customer needs to achieve favorable profitability outcomes.
- Cultivate and sustain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure outstanding broker and customer service.
- Serve as a point of escalation for junior underwriters and authorize risks within your established authority.
- Maintain the quality and profitability of your portfolio, referring any risks outside your authority to a Specialist.
- Provide insights through market research and analysis; develop business cases for pricing, coverage, and product enhancements.
- Contribute to the timely introduction and communication of pricing, coverage, and product modifications, including creating underwriter bulletins and assisting in the development of underwriting guidelines and manuals.
- Identify areas of concern regarding loss ratios, risk trends, or discrepancies, applying appropriate remediation strategies.
- Enhance your knowledge of all Information Systems/Programs utilized within Commercial Insurance.
- Participate in Quality Reviews and audits as necessary.
- Support the maintenance of a compliant underwriting environment concerning filed rates and rules.
- Engage in regulatory filings for rate adjustments and build filings for forms and underwriting.
- Stay informed about industry trends, developments, and regulatory changes.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in commercial insurance underwriting.
- Post-secondary education in Business or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- CIP/FCIP designation preferred.
- Strong understanding of underwriting, pricing, and products in key segments such as Wholesaling, Manufacturing, and Contractors.
- Familiarity with other functional areas, including Claims, Risk Management, and Accounting.
- Comprehensive understanding of underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, RTM, Commercial systems, and related applications.
- Ability to engage professionally to build long-term relationships with brokers and customers.
- Capacity to collaborate with internal business partners to enhance broker and customer experiences.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to pursuing business opportunities.
- Strong listening skills to effectively address broker and customer needs.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
