We are seeking a Child and Youth Care Practitioner to work with school teams to provide proactive supports for students with social, emotional, and behavioral issues. The successful candidate will have a post-secondary diploma, 2 years of experience working in an educational setting, and a valid driver's license.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with school teams to implement proactive supports for students with social, emotional, and behavioral issues
  • Provide services and supports to students to improve student success and support effective connections and communication between home, school, and community settings
  • Work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework to deliver specialized services to families
  • Report directly to the Lead, SchoolsPlus or designate

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or certificate in Child and Youth Care or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in an educational setting
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Valid NVCI training (or willingness to be trained in non-violent crisis intervention and ability to apply techniques)
  • Membership in the NS Child and Youth Care Workers' Association is an asset

Rate of Pay:

This is a 12-month per year position with a starting annual salary of $42,589.51 paid every two weeks. Salary is based on a six (6) step scale with step increases occurring annually.

Hours of Work:

Seven (7) hours per day (excluding lunch) totalling 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Vacation:

Permanent employees initially receive three (3) weeks vacation per year (15 days) for the quota period September 1st to August 31st. Term employees receive 4% vacation pay on each pay.
