Job Profile

There is an opening for the above position within the Community Development Department, Recreation & Culture Division. Reporting to the Supervisor of Recreation - Arts & Culture, this community development-focused position will act as a primary point of contact/liaison for community groups and other external stakeholders to navigate and access information and support from the City and other sources to keep Cambridge residents active, healthy and connected to their communities.

What you will be doing


• Facilitate relationships and collaboration between external organizations and other City departments

• Provide support for the development, implementation, administration and evaluation of key policies and programs including community grants

• Provide leadership and support for the development of agreements with community groups

• Work with community groups and staff to develop and implement communications, outreach, and community engagement activities

• Conduct environmental scans, needs assessments, and other activities to inform program/service development and continuous improvement

• Design and develop capacity-building and networking opportunities for staff, volunteers, and stakeholders

• Provide leadership for project teams including peers, part-time staff, and volunteers

• Develop, implement, and monitor project plans and budgets and manage expenditures

• Prepare and coordinate project charters, meeting agendas, and minutes

• Prepare briefing notes, corporate reports, and other communications

• Provide leadership and support for the development of grants and funding applications and reports

• Act as a liaison for the City/Recreation Division on key internal and external networks, committees, and work teams

• Develop resources, coordinate and implement formal and informal training opportunities as they pertain to community groups and services

• Coordinates meetings to inform and advise the public of section activities and programs

• Studies economic, social and recreational trends; implements needs assessments; and, evaluates programs in assigned area

• Liaises, supports and facilitates strong working relationships with community groups and community-based recreation services

Education

Two year College Diploma in Recreation and Leisure

Experience and Knowledge
  • A minimum of 3 to 4 years' experience in community recreation programming related to community development plus experience in staff and volunteer management, budget development and program data analysis
  • HIGH FIVE and QUEST training certification is preferred
  • Computer experience and proficiency - specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel and Active Net
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License (Class G).
  • Valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check, dated no earlier than six months before start date required upon offer of employment.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and have the ability to work in a high-energy environment.
  • Must be resourceful and have initiative to perform with minimum supervision including making sound decisions independently
  • Irregular hours of work to accommodate work with community stakeholders. Occasional long days and availability to work evenings and weekends may be required.
  • Requires flexibility of work locations including the ability to work effectively from home and/or community locations across the City (e.g. community centres, parks) in all weather conditions.

This position is within Grade 8 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an annual salary range of $72,800 to $77,386.

Hours of work

The current regular hours of work are in accordance with the Inside Worker's Collective Agreement, (35 hours per week), Monday to Friday, and may be scheduled between 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
