Role Summary:
A vital part of the Alison Neighbourhood Camp team, the Inclusion Leader is an enthusiastic and caring leader who helps to facilitate the positive involvement of all children in camp. The Inclusion Leader dedicatedly works alongside participants on an individual level, to adapt activities and support participant needs.
What We Are Looking For:
Camp leaders are the ‘front line’ of camp - in charge of caring for campers all day. These individuals will be marked by a desire to give of themselves in selfless service. An Inclusion Leader needs to be empathetic, adaptive, attentive to the needs of children and a team-player. The person in this role will report to and be supported by the Recreation Coordinator.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in the creation and implementation of resources for inclusion campers at ANCC Summer Camps
- Lead program participants in games, songs, crafts, activities and offsite trips
- Adapt activities, as needed, to allow active participation by a child with social/physical disabilities or behavioural concerns
- Provide additional individual assistance (e.g., interpreting instructions, providing physical assistance) in order to help the child(ren) learn new recreation and leisure skills
- Encourage social interaction between the child(ren) of all abilities
- Provide behavioural intervention, as needed, to facilitate the child(ren)'s involvement in the group
- Provide any other individual assistance needed to promote the child(ren)'s general adjustment in the program
- Act as a point of contact to parents/guardians, and communicate regularly about child’s successes and challenges
- Ensure the safety and supervision of all camp participants
- Work with an understanding and sensitivity to the multi-cultural needs of our community
- Adhere to guidelines and the Policies and Procedures set forth by the organization to ensure the highest quality of service delivery
- Attend and participate in weekly morning meetings
- Complete operational duties such as opening/closing duties, set up and clean up
- Complete any accident, incident, discipline or report forms as required
- Maintain confidentiality of participant phone numbers, health concerns, and site concerns
- Work with a high-quality standard; be a role model in all aspects
- Perform other related duties, as assigned by the Recreation Coordinator or Camp Coordinator, as required to meet organization objectives
- Experience working in camp environments
- Work or volunteer experience as a mentor or leader for children/youth ages 4-14 with social/physical disabilities or behavioural concerns
- A desire to help children and teach them life skills
- Emergency First Aid & CPR Certification
- Current, clear Vulnerable Sector Screening or willing to obtain one
