SCOPE:


The Research Coordinator will provide communication, collaboration, and planning support to the ONWA Research and Evaluation Portfolio. They will be responsible for developing and enhancing key community relationships/partnerships and improving engagements with ONWA services and membership, Indigenous Communities, internal and external stakeholders. The Research Coordinator will participate and support
in organizing internal working groups and research advisory committees on pertinent issues impacting Indigenous women and their families in Ontario. Additionally, the Research Coordinator will develop, implement, and support community-based research and engagement activities as part of the Research and Evaluation team, with a focus on knowledge gathering and mobilization relating to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People. In addition, the Research Coordinator will collaborate with Researchers and Research Assistants to prepare and support other on-going research projects by implementing and coordinating Indigenous research-based methodologies and gender-based analysis to gather and analyze data and knowledge mobilization.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, Indigenous Studies, Women's Studies, or law or legal studies with a minimum five (5) years' work experience in community service delivery in a research coordination role.
  • A thorough understanding of and demonstrated experience with Indigenous research methodologies in relation to knowledge gathering, analysis, and mobilization. Strong understanding of UNDRIP, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and the Federal Department of Justice's Action Plan.
  • Proven work experience related to Indigenous research methodologies and community-based action research.
  • Knowledge of the corporate nature, government systems/administration and the ability to interact with other government departments, Indigenous organizations, and communities.
  • Knowledge of and experience working for not-for profit organizations.
  • Demonstrated organizational, time management and presentation skills with the ability to follow through on assigned duties independently within strict deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communications, with emphasis on keen listening and ability to effectively interpret verbal communications and needs of prospective community members.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office; competency working with other databases.
  • Knowledge of data analysis software is an asset.
  • Experience in data collection, management, cleaning data sets and practices to protect sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of principles of Indigenous data sovereignty practices, OCAP training is an asset.
  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples/communities and organizations. Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and traditions.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current issues facing Indigenous Women and their families and
    ONWA's 9 key issue areas: Mother Earth, Family Violence, Sexual Violence, Child Welfare, Human Trafficking, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG), Housing and Homelessness, Justice, and Health.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Indigenous Gender-Based Analysis
  • Ability to travel when required.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.
  • Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check.
  • Cellular phone and internet access are required within this position.
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible working from home arrangement if required. This may include a combination of virtual remote work in your home and in office arrangements. This will be based on operational needs and will be determined by the ONWA.
  • Must be dependable and accountable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction and be able to improve performance through management feedback.
