Electrical Systems Design Engineer

Join our team as an Electrical Systems Design Engineer and contribute to the design of plant electric power distribution systems for commercial nuclear power plants and test facilities.

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to work on the design of electrical systems for nuclear power plants, including the nuclear island, turbine island, and balance of plant. As an Electrical Systems Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical systems that meet the safety and performance requirements of the plant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical systems for plant electric power distribution, including main generator, unit and reserve auxiliary transformers, and distribution and transmission grid.
  • Prepare detailed designs and specifications for electrical systems, including circuit breakers, disconnect switches, digital protective relays, switchgear, and switchboards.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to define and achieve functional, performance, reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) goals.
  • Lead or support nuclear regulatory certification or licensing, procurement packages, and hand-off to suppliers for implementation of systems and components requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop, perform, and review unit, module, system, and integration test plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Establish productive working relationships with product and project management, support functions, and suppliers.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, physics, or mathematics from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy and high reliability industries, such as nuclear, power, process, marine, oil & gas, military, etc.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience using digital tools, such as drawings, databases, tabular lists, and simulation software.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as 2D AutoCAD or 3D Inventor.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with dynamic or transient physics-based modeling, simulation, and analysis software, such as ETAP.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in engineering or equivalent technical degree.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with equipment qualification testing to industry standards.
  • Experience with modern digital engineering collaboration and design tools, such as content creation, requirements management, diagram and drawing, design and analysis simulation, and change management.
