In this position, you will integrate various engineering, scheduling, procurement, construction, and startup elements of a project. You may oversee a segment of a larger project or study in line with contractual commitments. You will be accountable for the technical excellence of the engineering functions, including the coordination of technical disciplines, procurement of materials and equipment, and assistance with construction planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define the scope of engineering work, timelines, and budgets for assigned project components, and track progress to ensure adherence to schedule and budget.
  • Identify and document changes in project scope. Aid in determining the scope of procurement work, timelines, and budgets for assigned project buyouts, monitoring progress to uphold those procurements.
  • Collaborate with procurement and subcontract personnel to streamline the bidding process. Coordinate the use of interdisciplinary technical staff on the project with other Project Engineers. Manage the assignment of personnel from other technical support divisions within the organization.
  • Support the Project Manager in planning, directing, supervising, and managing the execution of technical, financial, and administrative aspects of the project or study.
  • Assist in identifying the technical skills and staff hours necessary for the successful completion of the project.
  • Ensure that client criteria and scope are fulfilled by all engineering disciplines.
  • Facilitate the distribution of action items following discussions/meetings with the client and Project Manager.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation of activities for the client and project management.
  • Gather, analyze, and disseminate technical and contractual information to project disciplines.
  • Perform additional responsibilities related to this position as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in roads and highways engineering, or a broad general engineering background is essential.
  • Professional registration with PEO.
  • Ability to perform in a leadership capacity (i.e., highways/roadway lead).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with industry practices and regulations is required, including manuals such as OTM, TAC, MUTCD, etc.
  • Must possess a comprehensive understanding of current technology and be capable of selecting and applying suitable engineering software for project use.
  • Experience with MTO projects or other municipalities in the Greater Toronto Area is essential.
