The Technical Designer is responsible for developing and approving architectural and MEP drawings . This role will work closely with the Design team to make sure we have submissions that can go into cities flawlessly for permit approvals.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Check and develop design drawings to execute on the projects, budget, time and client specifications
  • Validate designs and ensure alignment with brand standards.
  • Use software such as Sketch-up, Adobe Creative Suite and Revit to produce accurate and detailed technical drawings.
  • Collaborate with architects and designers to develop technical solutions to design challenges.
  • Conduct thorough reviews and quality checks of design drawings to ensure compliance with architectural specifications, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Identify and correct any discrepancies, errors, or omissions in design drawings.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of relevant codes, standards, and best practices in architecture and commercial construction.
  • Work closely with project and site managers to ensure designs are practical and buildable.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members to address technical questions and provide solutions.
  • Participate in project meetings, offering technical insights and recommendations.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • May act as first point of contact, collecting information from clients and internal team members, and conducting site visits to confirm the client's spaces requirements, and deficiency review at completion.
  • Comply with all regulatory, environmental, ADA, AODA and health and safety requirements.
  • Incorporate sustainable practices, where practical, into project delivery, in accordance with company processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of construction documents, MEP's and permit applications.
  • Maintain and monitor material library and contracts (furniture/fixtures and equipment).
  • Other duties as assigned

YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in an architectural role, with a focus on technical design and quality assurance.
  • Experience working in the commercial construction industry.
  • Quick learner with the ability to adapt to changing work environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Awareness of building complexities, building and safety codes, the range of relevant products and materials, ergonomics, LEED, Bill 124 and applicable industry standards and regulations.
  • Ability to develop creative but functional solutions to solve client challenges.
  • Effective client service skills with ability to manage client expectations or redirect to supervisor as needed.
  • Software proficiencies in AutoCAD, Sketch-up; Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) is an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of design, construction, as well as knowledge of various furniture systems, interiors, materials, and finishes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation, documentation and report writing skills.

EDUCATION:

  • Diploma or Bachelors' Degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology.
