Job Summary

As a key member of the UBC Food Services team, the Apprentice Third Cook will play a vital role in preparing and serving meals to students, faculty, and staff. This dynamic individual will work in a fast-paced commercial kitchen environment, utilizing knife skills, correct terminology, and a variety of cooking methods to prepare a range of dishes.

The Apprentice Third Cook will work under the direction of kitchen leadership, completing tasks as directed and following daily communications. This role requires strong organizational skills, effective written and oral communication, and a sound knowledge of food service techniques and related equipment.

The ideal candidate will be responsive and adaptive to the constantly changing environment of a commercial kitchen, with a strong commitment to enhancing their awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and serves meals in accordance with a menu plan
  • Performs all phases of kitchen activities, including food preparation and presentation
  • Assists in maintaining inventory and recommends food inventory levels
  • Cleans kitchen and kitchen equipment
  • Maintains a high standard of sanitation and food safety

Requirements:

  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives
  • Commitment to enhancing awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate (an asset)
  • One year of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
