EDUCATION INTERN – ART GALLERY
Reporting to: Director/Curator – Art Gallery
Department: Art Gallery
Classification: INTERNSHIP – 42-week contract
Salary Range: $18.05/hour – Grant Funded
Hours of Work: 35 hours/week; including weekends and alternate shift hours.
Starting Date: June 4, 2024

Responsibilities:
  1. Work closely with the Head of Education and Education Coordinator.
  2. Assist with the research, development, documentation, and implementation of virtual exhibitions, collection lists/tours, and related education programs and resources through virtual platforms.
  3. Assist with the research, development, documentation, and delivery of public and school programs in-person and virtually.
  4. Increase intellectual access to the permanent collection.
  5. Liaise with volunteer committees that support education programming.
  6. Assist with front desk customer services such as greeting visitors, answering phone calls, POS system transactions.
  7. Perform other related duties along with other functions and priorities within an innovative municipal gallery as directed.
Qualifications:
  • Degree or diploma in Fine/Visual Art, Art Education, Art History, or Museum Studies.
  • Demonstrated strengths in research and writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity and experience using Past Perfect and Argus Collections Management database or other database programs, and knowledge of database management would be an asset.
  • Prior experience working or volunteering in a public gallery, museum, or library.
  • Prior experience teaching and supervising children ages 0 and up.
  • Priority will be given to candidates who wish to pursue further academic educational research and Arts/Culture programming work, in addition to work in museums or galleries.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity and experience using Zoom and other virtual platforms such as app developers and social media would be an asset.
This is a 42-week contract from June 4, 2024 to March 29, 2025. This position is dependent on funding from the Canadian Heritage Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage (YCW-BCH) program and candidate eligibility is stipulated by Young Canada Works graduate grant guidelines ).
