Summary: We are seeking a skilled Social Worker to provide clinical services to clients and their families in a mental health program.
We are looking for a Full Time Social Worker (MSW), Mental Health & Substance Use Services, to join our team in Surrey, B.C.
- Qualifications: Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited school of Social Work.
- Experience: At least two (2) years' recent, related experience in a mental health treatment setting or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Current full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver's license with access to personal vehicle for business purposes.
- Provides comprehensive therapeutic clinical counselling services to clients and their families, community supports, and interdisciplinary treatment teams.
- Maintains an active role in planning for care during the hospital stay, and facilitating optimal discharge planning.
- Conducts comprehensive social work and psychosocial assessments of clients, and families.
- Educates and provides consultation and support to clients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Maintains client records by documenting client assessments, charting client information, preparing progress notes and reports.
- Arranges meetings to develop and coordinate care plans and community services for clients requiring facility placement and/or community support.
- Communicates/collaborates with mental health and related community service agencies and family physicians.
- Accompanies and transports clients to pre-placement visits at residential facilities as required.
- Acts as resource to clients and their families by providing information for clients and families regarding community, resources and access to these resources.
- Participates as a member of the mental health program and local committees and planning bodies.
- Maintains a variety of records such as workload statistics.
- Develops, coordinates, and delivers in-services, presentations, psycho-educational and support groups.
- Initiates, develops and carries out research activities and program planning and development.
- Maintains current knowledge in Social Work practice in the mental health field.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of emotional issues related to mental illness and addictions and client and family cultural dynamics.
- Comprehensive clinical counselling skills including crisis counselling, brief therapeutic interventions and group work applicable to clients and families.
- Knowledge of legislation applicable to social work in mental health programs, and ability to apply the principles within relevant Mental Health Acts.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload in a complex environment.
- Ability to educate and provide consultation to clients, families and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to provide leadership to the interdisciplinary team in care planning for the effective utilization of client resources.
- Ability to make effective referrals, reflecting in-depth knowledge of community resources and strong collaborative skills in working with community health and social agency personnel.
- Ability to work effectively with others, including working effectively in a multicultural environment, independently, and as part of an integrated interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with clients, families and staff and community agency personnel.
- Ability to develop, coordinate and deliver in-services, presentations, psychoeducational and support groups.
- Ability to initiate, develop and carry out research activities.
