Summary: The National Research Council (NRC) is seeking a Technical Translator-Editor to produce high-quality translations from English to French of technical documents.

We are looking for a conscientious, solutions-oriented team player who strives for excellence and demonstrates qualities of accountability and integrity. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality translations from English to French of technical documents, including proposed change forms, intent statements, user's guides, code enquiries, presentations, training materials, evaluation reports and listings, and texts for the Codes Canada, NMS and CCMC Websites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Translate technical documents from English to French with high accuracy and attention to detail
  • Edit contract translations and perform other duties as necessary
  • Work within a team of editors, translators and IT specialists
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure high-quality translations meet client needs
Requirements
  • University degree in Translation (from English to French)
  • Recent experience (at least one year in the last five years) in translation of technical or legal documents from English to French
  • Recent experience (at least one year in the last five years) in French editing of technical or legal documents
  • Recent experience (at least one year in the last five years) in the use of terminology banks and computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools
Assessment Criteria
  • In-depth knowledge of the translation and editing process
  • Sound knowledge of publication software packages and markup languages
  • Knowledge of the terminology and particular needs and preferences exhibited by technical practitioners
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, judgement and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to carry out instructions and to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
Compensation

The salary range for this position is from $70,852 to $95,230 per annum.   • Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC's directives
  • A pre-qualified list may be established for similar positions for a one year period
