About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Victim Support Specialist to join our team at Ombudsman Ontario. As a key member of our Victim Witness Services team, you will play a critical role in providing support and assistance to victims and witnesses of crime.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Information and Support: Offer information, support, and assistance to clients, including needs assessment, crisis intervention, emotional support, and referrals.
  • Manage and Coordinate Cases: Manage and coordinate assigned high-volume cases, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Liaise with Stakeholders: Act as a liaison and maintain networks to advocate for the needs and interests of clients, working collaboratively with criminal justice partners and community agencies.
  • Participate in Projects and Committees: Participate in projects, committees, and public education activities to promote awareness and understanding of victim support services.
  • Prepare Reports and Statistics: Prepare statistical reports and case file summaries, as well as assist in developing and conducting training programs.
Requirements
  • Valid Driver's License: Possess a valid Class G Ontario driver's license with the ability to travel within the region to satellite offices.
  • Technical Knowledge: Demonstrate skills in providing services to victims of crime and marginalized/vulnerable clients, with a proven track record of working with victims/witnesses of crime, including domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, homicide, and death-related cases.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Apply program policies, relevant legislation, and guidelines to assess client risks, consider alternatives, and select the best plan of action to meet unique needs.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Effectively communicate with diverse clients, liaise with criminal justice partners, and network with community agencies to advocate for client needs.
  • Case Management and Organizational Skills: Manage a large caseload independently, prioritize work, and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Computer Skills: Demonstrate knowledge of MS Office software and working with database systems.
