Research Officer (RO) - Fire Safety

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) is seeking a highly skilled Research Officer (RO) to join our Construction Research Centre (CRC). As a Research Officer, you will play a key role in advancing our understanding of fire safety and contributing to the development of new technologies and methodologies to minimize the destructive impact of fire on life safety, the built environment, and the economy.

About the Role

  • Develop research initiatives, client-focused projects, probabilistic and reliability-based models, and innovative technologies and methodologies to address fire safety challenges.
  • Contribute to the development of NRC and CRC research priorities.
  • Provide scientific evidence to support the development of building codes, regulations, design guidelines, and technical standards.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of research and technical officers to advance fire safety research and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead research projects to address fire safety challenges in the built environment.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify research needs and priorities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry partners and stakeholders to advance fire safety research and innovation.
  • Contribute to the development of research reports, publications, and presentations.

Requirements

  • PhD in engineering, science, architecture, or a relevant area of expertise.
  • Significant experience in fire science and engineering, including experience in applying analytical and computational methods to develop or optimize solutions to various fire safety challenges.
  • Experience in experimental design and analysis, including data collection and analysis, and ensuring data quality.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Assets

  • Experience in applying and/or developing building and fire codes.
  • Experience in fire risk assessment and fire risk mitigation.
  • Experience in business development, marketing activities, and/or the development of partnerships and collaborations.
  • Experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams.
