Seeking an Innovative, Executive Director for the Rekai Centre at Wellesley Central Place Long Term Care Home.

The Rekai Centre at Wellesley Central Place:

Rekai Centre at Wellesley Central Place is a 150 bed Long-Term Care home located in the heart of downtown Toronto on the site of the previous Wellesley Hospital. It is a Class A home which opened in 2005. The Rekai Centre at Wellesley Central Place offers 90 private rooms and 60 basic rooms.

This individual is a positive team player who thrives in a busy environment, is comfortable wearing many hats, promotes and embraces change and is highly functioning in a dynamic work environment. This position requires an understanding and respect for individual work styles and adapt as required to effectively work with a variety of individuals.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required: 5+ years of relevant progressive experience, and a passion for and understanding of senior care, including experience with not-for-profit Long-Term Care settings.
  • Required: LTC Administrator’s certificate or successfully complete the course within 1 year of hiring.
  • Required: Knowledge of FLTCAA, Long Term Care, Ontario’s healthcare system and admission processes.
  • Preferred: Undergraduate degree, ideally in Nursing, Health Administration or Business Administration
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and strong track record in strategic decision -making, management of budgets, finance, human resources, information, technology, facilities and operations.
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills; good judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
  • Superior English communication and oral skills


POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the CEO, the Executive Director will be responsible for day-to-day operations, financial oversight and smooth delivery of Resident Care services. Maintaining regular communication with our residents and their families is of paramount importance. This role manages the efficient use of human, physical and financial resources to maintain the highest quality care for residents.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has two main areas of responsibility: Operational and Corporate.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: OPERATIONAL

Leadership:

  • Provides guidance, direction and supervision for the Wellesley Central Place staff and residents.
  • Ensures the Home maintains compliance with FLTCA, all applicable statues, regulations and government requirements.
  • Assists and develops corporate policies and procedures.
  • Oversee daily operation and administration


Human Resources

  • Provides guidance and supports the Department Heads in interpreting the collective agreements, labour issues (disciplines, grievances) etc.
  • Meets with Department Heads on a regular basis and provides guidance and support on Risk Management, Compliance, Legal and Fiscal, Resident-Care, HR (interpreting the collective agreements, labour issues etc.
  • Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, performance management and discharge of Department Heads and other key staff.


Communication and Public Relations

  • Actively involved in various external committees with the Ministry of Long-Term Care/Ontario Health Teams/ AdvantAgeOntario.
  • Supports the CEO with marketing and public relations.


Financial Management

  • Must be familiar with Ministry of Health & Long Term Care Funding guidelines and implementation.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Business Services, responsible for completion of Home’s operating budget along with appropriate Department Heads.
  • Manages the capital budgets for the Home and collaboratively with the CEO, decides on capital priorities for the fiscal year.
  • Analyses the annual operating budgets for the Home and provides feedback to the Department Heads.
  • Monitors the monthly expenditures.
  • Reviews financial variance reports for the Home and evaluates financial status of the Home.
  • Consults with the Director of Business Services in areas of financial management, funding, cash flow, etc.
  • Provides leadership on new funding initiatives and input into how funds need to be spent/allocated for the Home.


Quality & Risk Management

  • Monitors the Quality Improvement programs, the new Long-Term Care Home Performance Reports and the respective internal and external scorecards providing feedback to senior management on areas of risk and outcomes.
  • Reviews monthly quality improvement reports for each department, reviews and provides feedback on trends, areas that require further follow-up or analysis.
  • Receives reports on risk management activities and is notified of all unusual, critical issues or complaints in the Home.
  • Provides guidance to the team with respect to difficult resident or employee issues
  • Participates in the Home’s Resident Quality Inspection (RQI) process.
  • Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators used by Health Quality Ontario and CIHI.
  • Oversees the development of the annual QIP submission.
  • Required to participate in the improvement of the indicators and achieve targeted results.
  • Completes all assigned training required as per the FLTCHA and Regulation 79/10.
  • Identifies potential liability issues and collaborates with staff to minimize risk.
  • Provides leadership to the Risk Register


CORPORATE

  1. STRATEGY: In collaboration with the Corporate management team, assists in operationalizing the Mission, Vision, and Value statements for the organization and individual Homes
  2. LEADERSHIP: Provides leadership and is actively involved in the development of innovations contributing to the vision of the Rekai Centres Campus of Care


Responsible for Following Programs:

  • Multiculturism: We were the first Long Term Care home to celebrate multiculturalism. The respect for cultural values means that the residents will be able to celebrate their culture, traditions and enjoy traditional foods from time to time.
  • Rainbow Wing 2SLGBTQ + unit: Providing dedicated support to the Rainbow Wing, the first 2SLGBTQ+ unit, at Wellesley Central Place.
  • Dementia: Person Centered Care - The Home also has 25 rooms providing specialized care for individuals living with dementia. The sustainability of the Dementia Unit is a key initiative for the Rekai Centres.
  • Palliative Care Program, Nursing Restorative Programs: providing support and strengthening to these programs
  • Behaviour Support: Providing leadership to the BSO Team
  • Providing leadership to healthcare innovations as they develop.
  • Provide input to internal and external committees on a range of operational and corporate initiatives.
  • Communicates the Corporate Strategic Plan to internal and external stakeholders


Compensation

This is a full-time permanent position, typically Monday to Friday, but availability outside of regular business hours will be required for meetings and events. The position offers a competitive salary. You will also be eligible for a benefits package and accrue paid vacation time.
