About the opportunity:
The Compensation & Rewards Manager plays an essential role in the Total Rewards Function and is responsible for the development and management of compensation and rewards strategies that align with the company’s business objectives. This role requires a deep understanding comprehensive compensation including but not limited to market trends, regulatory environment and the ability to balance competitive pay practices with the company’s financial goals. This role is responsible for tracking KPI’s and leading or participating in a variety of projects and group initiatives as required.
The Manager is a subject matter expert in compensation and rewards programs and will be responsible for national compensation and rewards administration including market surveys, compensation structure, job evaluations, short term incentive plans, loyalty program, champion program and rewards system and overall programs. The Manager may take on additional responsibilities such as budget reporting, fleet administration or other activities as needed to support their growth and development and the success of the Total Rewards Function.
The attributes we are looking for:
- Manage and analyze the overall compensation program for both internal and external equities, recommend, develop and implement programs as it pertains to; base pay, job evaluation, and incentive pay. Support the executive compensation as requested.
- Maintain integrity of the non-union job evaluation system by supporting consistent development of job descriptions through partnership with HR Managers and conducting evaluations according to the plan.
- Manage the annual compensation review process for salaried jobs. Provide market insights and research on the annual budget and merit. Manage the annual incentive payment process by calculating entitlements according to the plan and coordinating the payment. Develop, design and implement automated tools to continually improve and streamline the process to provide enhanced employee experience.
- Drive competitive pay position with the market, through participation in compensation surveys, analyzing results, conducting market analyses, providing recommendations with supporting reports and charts, and implementing changes.
- Oversee the pay equity reviews for all applicable provinces, salary and hourly groups and produce filing as applicable. Maintain pay equity compliance by maintaining multiple Pay Equity plans for salaried and hourly employee groups.
- Communicate effectively and efficiently to the HR team and people management regarding policies, practices and philosophy through education sessions, training material, and job aids / guidelines.
- Manage and evaluate the overall rewards program for both internal and external equities, recommend, develop and implement programs nationally. Administer the day-to-day rewards and recognition programs under the Total Rewards function.
What you will bring:
Education & Experience
University degree in Business, Human Resources Management or College Diploma with relevant work experience.
Minimum 5 (five) years of experience in compensation including experience conducting job evaluations, writing job descriptions, and administering annual compensation review and calculations, as well as HR metrics. Exposure to design and implementation of various compensation programs such as base pay and incentive pay, performance management, and job evaluation.
Relevant designations are preferred such as Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Employee Benefits, Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), and Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge and understanding of compensation program design principles, programs, and processes as well as implementation of base pay, incentive pay, performance management, job evaluation, and pay equity. Bilingual ability an asset (English and French)
Proficient with standard office computer technology such as Microsoft Office products including advanced proficiency with spreadsheets. As well as in-depth knowledge of Human Resources Information systems.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight timelines without compromising the integrity of information
Numeracy with strong analytical and critical thinking ability as it relates to data, with a very high level of attention to accuracy and details
Problem-solving and presentation skills, with the ability to compile and present statistical data and analyses
Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to work collaboratively within a team with excellent interpersonal skills; interacting with clients, peers, and other groups with a high level of professionalism with the ability to work independently
Strong integrity with ability to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information.
