Position Description

Temporary Assignment - approximately 25 weeks

POSITION SUMMARY:
The role of the Case Assessment Specialist is to provide clinical support to the WSIB Specialty Programs at SJHH by coordinating services with WSIB case managers and nurse consultants, performing assessments in multidisciplinary teams, and preparing and reviewing comprehensive reports. The Case Assessment Specialist will contribute to completing return-to-work recommendations for injured workers using both evidence-based rehabilitation principles and return-to-work best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Current Registration in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists or Chiropractors of Ontario
  • Professional Liability Insurance required
  • Minimum 3 Years of experience in Rehabilitation required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with WSIB Point of Care, Specialty Programs, or Regional Evaluation Centres required
  • Significant knowledge of rehabilitation principles
  • Knowledge of Return-to-Work principles
  • Knowledge of WSIB programs
  • Knowledge in the management and education of spine-related conditions/injuries/surgeries
  • Knowledge in the management and education of traumatic brain injuries considered an asset
  • Experience in ergonomic assessments and consultations an asset
  • Strong patient assessment skills and program planning experience
  • Good working knowledge of computers (Microsoft Word, Excel)
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work within customer Service Level Agreements

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete assessments as part of a multi-disciplinary team with medical specialists and produce reports for WSIB
  • Review and prepare clinical case synopses to present to medical specialists
  • Work in collaboration with medical specialists to develop treatment and return-to-work recommendations
  • Review clinical content of reports for consistency and accuracy of patient presentation
  • Ability to critically review clinical files and identify possible upstream impact on all stakeholders (WSIB, patient, employer) and provide recommendations on how to manage the possible predicted outcomes with the support of the manager
  • Act as a liaison between WSIB Case Managers, Nurse Consultants and patients to share treatment recommendations and return-to-work strategies.
  • Communicate return to work recommendations to patients and WSIB contacts.
  • Respond to WSIB, Physician and patient concerns, work with management to identify cause of problem/complaint and proactively recommend and implement corrections.
  • Review incoming referrals to ensure the correct assessment at the right time.
  • Responsible for administrative duties, including preparing correspondence, word processing, and document formatting
  • Acts as a staff/departmental representative on internal and external committees as required/requested by Manager.
  • Responsible for gathering information and presenting it to the project manager, WSIB – point out learning requirements of the program and assist the manager with program implementation
  • Contributes to the corporate efforts and initiatives, as appropriate, to enhance SJHH’s mission, vision and values.
  • Performs duties in a manner that demonstrates the employee’s commitment to developing a culture of patient and staff safety through accountability, reliability, trust and teamwork.
  • Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner.
