Job Description

Reporting to the Business Unit Manager Service of Hobart Canada and supports both the National Service and Equipment. The Human Resources Manager manages all the activities of HR policies and programs covering the following areas: compensation, benefits, recruitment, training & development, labour relations, health & safety, communications and oversee payroll for a staff of over 230 employees (union and non-union) located across Canada.

Requirements:

  • Fluent in French and English both spoken and written
  • Bachelor’s degree or College diploma in Human Resources or a related field along with a Professional Human Resources designation (CHRP or CHRL)
  • Must have 5+ years of Management experience
  • Proficient knowledge of all policies and programs related to HR
  • Knowledge on a variety of legislative acts: All Provincial Employment Standards, Labour Relations, Pension benefits and Health & Safety and understand legal and regulatory compliance, to ensure alignment with internal practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
  • The position does require occasional travel within Canada and the United States.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Handle employee relation issues and confidential matters, conduct investigations, and provide appropriate resolutions.
  • Handle all legal employment matters
  • Work with the HR Generalist to Recruit, hire and coordinate the hiring process with the branches and Sales and review employment offer process and offer letters
  • Collaborate with Employees and Management to help drive a safety culture
  • Provide guidance and support to employees and managers regarding HR policies, procedures and programs.
  • Maintain accurate HR records and generate relevant reports as needed.
  • Ensure performance reviews are completed for staff annually
  • Negotiate all labour contracts (2) within economic parameters avoiding labour disruptions/work stoppages
  • Prepare negotiations briefs, arranges meetings and conduct negotiations
  • Administer the collective agreements to ensure compliance
  • Handle all grievances and arbitration processes
  • Participate in arbitration proceedings when appropriate
  • Manage and administer the pension plans, process notification of termination/retirement and assist with pension plan audit
  • Gather data to complete the filling of the AIR reports for the union plan to the FSCO
  • Respond to enquiries from members, potential retirees and retirees
  • Manage short term and long-term disability claims
  • Administer job evaluation and salary administration
  • Gather market data for job evaluation
  • Develop and maintain salary grades, schedules for all branches
  • Provide all necessary information for the yearly salary review
  • Coordinate and handle payroll related activities
  • Review and approve payroll weekly
  • Oversee training and development and ensure legal requirements are met
