The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will be responsible for managing all aspects of payroll operations for multiple entities within the organization. This role demands a thorough understanding of payroll practices and compliance with all applicable employment and tax laws in Canada, particularly in Alberta. The ideal candidate will align with the company’s core values of commitment, attitude, and respect.


Responsibilities:


  • Process payroll on a bi-weekly basis for multiple companies within the group, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations and filings, including CPP, EI, and income tax.
  • Administer employee benefit plans (group insurance, accidental death insurance) including enrolment, revisions, and terminations.
  • Provide support for fiscal year-end reconciliation.
  • Process yearly T4’s, bonuses, and other allowances for the various payrolls when applicable.
  • Maintain and update payroll and benefits records, including leave of absences, departures, deductions, and other payroll-related changes.
  • Coordinate with HR and finance departments to ensure seamless payroll integration with other company processes.
  • Handle employee queries related to payroll and benefits issues and provide accurate guidance.
  • Prepare and submit detailed reports on payroll activities and discrepancies.
  • Continuously improve processes and systems related to payroll administration.
  • Provide support to the accounting department and management as required.


Qualifications & Experience:


  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certificate would be beneficial.
  • A minimum of five years of payroll experience is required.
  • Competence in using computer software related to payroll and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks and projects as needed.
  • Highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate respectful and professional communication at all times.
