Job Summary

Main Responsibilities

Support CN requests for government funding

  • Develop an understanding of the United States (U.S.) and Canadian grant programs (e.g., federal, provincial and municipal)
  • Provide recommendations to senior management on applicable projects
  • Establish funding agreements
  • Ensure funding conditions are met and coordinate any compliance requirements during and following any funded projects
  • Liaise with government stakeholders

Transaction Support and Analysis

  • Support the team by performing analysis to assess target companies and potential corporate development initiatives
  • Participate in due diligence activities and review summary reports
  • Identify and quantify cost and revenue synergies, in consultation with internal stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
  • Support integration of acquired company's operations and the effective transition of divested assets
  • Prepare presentations for senior management with background and recommendations on potential targets for acquisition, divestiture, or corporate development proposals

Ad Hoc Projects

  • Support the discontinuance process as rail service is officially discontinued on redundant lines in Canada
  • Provide valuation and analysis for other nontransactional projects that periodically are assigned to the Acquisitions team
  • Develop and maintain relationships with short lines and other external stakeholders

Working Conditions


The role is performed primarily in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday with occasional work on evenings and weekends.

Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress.

The role requires occasional travel (10%) within Canada and the U.S..

Requirements:

Experience
Finance

  • Minimum 5 years of experience at CN or in the transportation industry
  • Experience handling government funding for capital projects
  • Experience with National Trade Corridor Funding (Canada), Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements Grant Program (U.S.)
  • Experience in proposal writing
  • Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

  • Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Economics or Law
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
  • Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset
