_ About the Position:
_


Reporting to the Director, Finance and Administration, this position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Faculty of Engineering's building maintenance, renovation/construction, and space management activities.

The Manager, Building Operations participates in the development, recommendation, and administration of policies, procedures and processes in support of the Faculty of Engineering's facilities operations.

This position responds to inquiries and requests for service from internal departments and supervises technical/support staff.

The Manager, Building Operations provides facilities and operational input on major/minor capital projects, new building design and on remodel-improvement projects, repairs & enhancements, including working closely with engineers and architects in the specification development stages of these projects.

The Manager, Building Operations also serves as the primary liaison with areas such as Facility Services, EOHSS, Parking & Security Services, and is responsible for the management of space, resolution of space related issues and problems, renovation and construction projects, tracking of space utilization, and participates in the allocation of space within the Faculty.


_ Key Accountabilities:

  • Partner with the Director of Finance and Administration to identify strategic priorities and ensure the diverse space needs of stakeholder groups are considered and incorporated.
  • Visit campus sites to stay abreast of campus renovation trends
  • Arrange for purchases of furniture and equipment
  • Negotiate pricing and contract terms with various vendors and suppliers
  • Solve a variety of problems that arise related to Engineering's physical facilities
  • Prepare contingency plans for recovering services and operations after incidents including, but not limited to, power blackouts, water damage or structural building failures and contribute to the planning and development of disaster recovery scenarios
  • Manage annual operational and special project budgets
  • Attend and participate in a variety of committees and working groups
  • Work closely with EOHSS and Security and Parking Services to ensure the safety of occupants of Engineering buildings.
  • Liaise with Facility Services as the Faculty representative on renovation projects, maintenance and repair issues, landscaping requests, work orders, etc.
  • Represent the Faculty as a stakeholder regarding facility and space planning projects; advise senior leadership regarding construction and renovation projects; prepare special analyses and reports related to longrange planning as appropriate.

  • Assess and assign space according to prioritized utilization; negotiate usage of space, trading of space and coordination of related resources as appropriate.
  • Prepare a variety of reports around space: space management, Faculty statistics, space usage reports, etc.
  • Manage the daytoday operations of Engineering's building spaces that do not belong to Academic Departments.
  • Develop and implement both short and longterm plans to ensure the effective and efficient use of spaces.
  • Provide guidance and support in the operationalization of the Faculty's strategic priorities with respect to space.
  • Conduct space reviews within the Faculty of Engineering
  • Remain current with space utilization trends in public and private institutions
  • Provide general oversight to space utilized by centres and institutes; make recommendations re utilization improvement
  • Oversee, update and maintain the Faculty of Engineering's space ma
