DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Addiction Counsellor I will focus on the development and provision of addiction and concurrent disorder capable services, with a primary focus on day/community withdrawal programming, along with follow-up, monitoring, case management.

Additionally, this position will collaborate closely with other new positions in the Scarborough community in establishing a team that is well integrated with community and hospital partners.


Note:
Travel between Scarborough locations and as required Pinewood Centre is inherent with this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree / Diploma in Social Sciences;
  • Registration /working towards with professional college, as regulated;
  • Proven experience with program development and implementation;
  • Significant experience with substance use populations, including intake/screening, Assessment (been trained/willing to be trained in GAIN-Q3 MI ONT), group facilitation, treatment planning and case management functions
  • Significant experience in provision of individually-based substance use counselling, and group-based services, including psycho-educational and therapeutic modalities;
  • Experience with telephone /virtual counselling is also required;
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, team work and organizational skills;
  • Proven working knowledge of theories of addiction, evidence-based treatment models and best practice approaches;
  • Proven knowledge of other key issues associated with substance use, particularly concurrent disorders, physical health issues, women's issues, homelessness, family issues, adolescent development and working with the youth population, and crisis intervention;
  • Proven knowledge of multicultural and diversity issues;
* demonstrated ability to work closely with the community, with the clinical team and independently in a manner consistent with high professional standards;

  • Proven ability to recognize and diffuse escalating or potentially violent clients;
  • Proven knowledge of community resources and provincial addiction system;
  • Proven commitment to a client focused philosophy of care;
  • Must be willing to travel and provide own transportation;
  • Willingness to be clinically supervised and pursue ongoing professional development;
  • Ability to communicate with other local languages: Tamil, Chinese ( Cantonese, Mandarin);
  • Experience working with agencies in Scarborough areas and familiar with their services;
  • Proven good attendance record and ability of maintaining same standard.
  • Must have satisfactory performance record;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.
