Job Summary:

The purpose of the Assistant Student Recruiter position is to promote the University's programs.

Presenting information to guidance counsellors, prospective students and parents, this role is focused on informing prospective students about Ontario Tech.

This is primarily accomplished through a combination of in-person and virtual recruitment.

The main objective of this position is presenting to high school and engaging one-on-one with prospective students and applicants to convert to enrolments.

The Assistant Student Recruiter will meet with students across the province of Ontario, representing Ontario Tech at education fairs, secondary school, college visits and community events.

This role is responsible for advising prospective students, parents, guidance counsellors, teachers and the general community across Ontario on academic program options available at Ontario Tech, while providing exemplary customer service.


Nature of work:

This position reports to the Manager, Student Recruitment.**
Responsibilities/accountabilities:Represent Ontario Tech in-person and digitally:

  • Increase brand awareness of Ontario Tech programs to grow enrolment through in-person and virtual presentations and attendance at various high school, college and community events.
  • Attends both on and off campus events across the province.
  • Informs students via presentations, webinars and personal conversations about programs offered.
  • Enhances existing and develops new relationships with schools, guidance counsellors and teachers.
  • Increase applicant marketshare in order to meet the enrolment targets set by the institution.

Relationship Building and Lead Nurturing:

  • Provides basic academic counselling and advises prospective students.
  • Utilize the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to proactively target and nurture assigned leads and applicants
  • Reach out to prospective students to offer support throughout the recruitment, admissions and registration process to keep students interested, engaged and committed as they transition to becoming an Ontario Tech student
  • Conducts followup visits to key feeder schools to meet with applicants and drive yield to confirmations.
  • Holds oneonone meetings with assigned leads and applicants

Query Management and Communication:

  • Collects contract information from students to build a prospect database and establish an avenue for communication.
  • Acts as first point of contact for online prospective students of all types (ie. domestic, transfer, international, grad) who engage with Ontario Tech via Live Chat and form submissions.
  • Responds to queries related to university admission requirements, programs, services and Student Life.
  • Conducts conversion recruitment activities including call campaigns.
  • Followsup with students to ensure their questions are answered.
  • Contact high schools and colleges to schedule recruitment visits.

General Recruitment Support:

  • Conducts campus tours during peak tour times (ie. March Break Tours, January Drop-In Tours).
  • Assists with setup and takedown of recruitment events such as Open House, Ontario Universities Fair, Transfer Information Night, Ridgeback Applicant Welcome.
  • Preparing packages to schools and applicants.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on presentation to external contacts.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Flexibility in dealing with a variety of clients; secondary, nonsecondary, nontraditional, parents, teachers, guidance counsellors and community partners
  • Positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation.
  • Strong technical/multimedia skills.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Proficiency in using advanced features associated with the current versions of Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint required.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment.
  • A strong record of teamwork, with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision.

Required Education:

  • Completion of a minimum threeyear postsecondary college or university program, specifically in a discipline related to Ontario Tech programming
  • A fouryear honors bachelor degree from Ontario Tech is strongly preferred.
  • Verification of Academic credentials may be required
