The Organization:

The Métis Nation is a distinct Indigenous people recognized under Section 35 of the Canadian Constitution Act, 1982. The Métis National Council (MNC) and its Governing Members advocate for the Métis Nation.

The primary mandate of the MNC is to work with federal and other key stakeholders to resolve systemic issues and concerns of the Métis Nation such as the fiscal relationship with the federal government; economic development; health; childcare and family services; education; environment, Métis veterans, and language promotion and protection.

The MNC represents the Métis Nation both domestically and abroad and seeks to reinforce the Métis Nation's right to self-government in Canada.


The Opportunity:


The Health Policy Analyst will be responsible for supporting the health sector of the Métis National Council in developing, analyzing, and implementing health policies and initiatives.

This role plays a vital part in shaping and improving MNC's health capacity by working on health priorities, promotion and prevention, regarding chronic diseases including tobacco control.

The Policy Analyst of Health will work closely with senior advisors, analysts, policymakers, and stakeholders to provide research, data analysis, and policy recommendations.


Key Responsibilities:

∞ Conduct research and analysis:
Gather and analyze data, literature, and best practices to inform the development of health policies and initiatives. Monitor emerging trends, evidence, and policy developments related to healthcare and health disparities affecting the Métis community.

∞ Policy development and evaluation:
Assist in the formulation and review of health policies, guidelines, and frameworks. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify policy gaps and propose innovative solutions. Evaluate the effectiveness of existing policies and recommend improvements based on research findings and community needs.

∞ Data management and reporting:
Collect, organize, and manage health-related data, including demographic, epidemiological, and health service utilization data. Prepare reports, presentations, and policy briefs that effectively communicate complex information to a diverse audience.

∞ Stakeholder engagement:

Collaborate with government agencies, healthcare providers, community organizations, and other stakeholders to facilitate dialogue, gather input, and build consensus around health policy issues.

Represent the Métis National Council at relevant meetings, conferences, and working groups.

∞ Policy implementation support:

Assist in the implementation of health policies and programs, including developing implementation plans, monitoring progress, and providing recommendations for course correction if needed.

Support capacity-building initiatives for health professionals and community members to enhance their understanding of health policies and promote active participation in their implementation.

∞ Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills.

∞ Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.

∞ Demonstrated passion for health and creating positive outcomes

Qualifications:

∞ A Master's Degree is preferred in health policy, public health, health administration, or a related field.

∞ Knowledge of health policy issues, healthcare systems, and health disparities affecting Indigenous populations, particularly the Métis community.

∞ Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it effectively.

∞ Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods, data analysis, and statistical software.

∞ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience in preparing policy documents, reports, and presentations.

∞ Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.

∞ Familiarity with legislative and regulatory processes related to health policy is an asset.

Knowledge and Skills:
