Reporting to the Senior Manager, Shelters and Shelter Programs, the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Supervisor provides leadership while ensuring that there is an organized infection prevention and control program implemented in the Emergency Shelters, Respite Shelters, Rooming House, and Supportive Housing sites operated by the DHNS Agency.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the process of planning, coordinating, directing, and monitoring the effectiveness of all operational activities of the IPAC portfolio in the Housing Services and Support department.
  • Participate in and lead committees and task groups as required.
  • Provide input on the development of the annual operating plan for the department
  • Support and participate in IPAC projects and provide status reports to direct manager.
  • Assist with the oncall duties on a rotational basis.
  • Support the Agency, frontline Managers, Supervisors, and IPAC team with all relevant directives, communications, and guidance from SSHA in relation to IPAC.
  • Oversee the full implementation of directives, communications, and guidance from SSHA relating to IPAC across all Housing Services program sites.
  • Contribute to the JHSC as an ex officio member with specific focus on IPAC.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of IPAC policies and procedures for the Agency and other Agency departments and programs, as requested.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to the Agency by providing IPAC resources, information and training to all staff
  • Collaborate with the shelter team on the management of residents based on the infection.
  • Guide the IPAC team in ensuring that the Housing Services team members follow IPAC processes, are compliant with PPE requirements, and with hygiene practices.
  • Guide the Agency's collaboration and communication with Toronto Public Heath (TPH) during outbreaks
  • During outbreaks, ensures daily outbreak meetings occur, documented minutes and follow up actions; ensure minutes are forwarded to HR for submission to the Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development (MLTSD) and WSIB, as applicable.
  • Summarize outbreak analysis and trending for communication at Infection Prevention & Control Committee/Professional Advisory Committee.
  • Train and coach team members on IPAC best practices.
  • Create content to assist with educating residents, team members, students, and volunteers.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives that may result from internal and external partner visits.
  • Direct the completion of monthly inspections for IPAC and safety practices (i.e., needle stick injuries, PPE concerns, cleaning and disinfecting equipment concerns).

  • Resolve IPAC health and safety hazards identified and reported through inspections for residents and team members in collaboration with program/site managers; report actions taken to Agency's JHSC.
  • Facilitate Respiratory Fit testing and training and ensure compliance to training requirements. Maintain records of Respiratory Fit tests are kept current.
  • Works in accordance with the organization's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • File incident and outbreak reports with HR and the JHSC in keeping with established procedures and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Health Promotion, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years recent experience working with homeless or marginalized people in a communitybased setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience working in infection control required; Experience in infection prevention and control in congregate settings is an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing a team of IPAC professionals in a unionized workplace; experience gained in a communitybased, multilocation, multiservice organization preferred.
  • Completion of an Infection Prevention and Control certification endorsed by IPAC Canada (preferred) or Infectio
