Reporting to the Director, Passenger Markets & Air Service Development the Manager is a member of the Air Service & Commercial Development Management team.

This position is accountable for developing partner relationships as it relates to tourism and travel partners.

This position is focused on partnership strategies which include relationships with tourism/business partners, consumers, corporations, Economic Development, Chamber of Commerce and travel agents in order to develop strategic support for air service.

This role will act as an advocate for business development, diversification and innovation while driving related funding.

Through relationship building, proposals, and shared plans, this position is engaged with stakeholders with a focus on air service investments and attracting visitors to the region.

Day in The Life

You might be wondering what you can expect in a typical day at work.

Every day will bring new opportunities, focusing on key responsibilities, including:

  • Develop and execute on an internal business development plan in support of air service, and marketing and funding development from local partners in support of airport/airlines and inbound tourism campaigns
  • Funding development from nonlocal partners in support of airport/airlines and outbound tourism campaigns including pitching concepts and partnerships in Edmonton for nonlocal partners to activate messaging in (ex. tourism organizations from the USA, Europe and other parts of Canada)
  • Sourcing new funding opportunities and partnerships including new, innovative, nontraditional partnerships
  • Collaborate with internal partners including ASD & Marketing to help guide and support tourism/airline partnerships to ensure all partners see value from investments
  • Responsible for collecting and presenting reporting to internal and external partners
  • Attend tourism events to advocate for and network with current and potential funding partners
  • Responsible for maintaining regular meeting frequency with external partners including setting up strategy and planning sessions, in alignment with partner funding cycles and reporting requirements
  • Identify local opportunities to elevate airline and airport messaging in the community, including meeting with potential business and travel manager contacts to share corporate travel insights with the airlines
  • Responsible for liaising and communicating regularly with travel agencies to share airport and airline messaging. Create and maintain professional relationships with key partners to aid in promoting existing and new routes in support of YEG
  • Ability to analyze data to identify air service opportunities. Understand and research the customer data from communities that use Edmonton International Airport to determine added value and requirements for each community.
  • Collaborate with and support other strategic business units in changes to airport operation, facilitation and passenger experience that improve the YEG product.
  • Provide direct support to other YEG employees through research, development of information products and sales support activities.
  • Manage key projects as well as participate as a stakeholder on projects relating to tourism, business groups and community associations
  • Facilitate opportunities with tourism partners and other business/tourism partners to drive business development, joint campaigns and act as a local knowledge resource
  • Participate in a collaborative and open environment with other air service development team members including regular updates and communication
  • External focused position that requires travel.

Special Requirements:

You Have:

  • Degree in Business or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working in tourism, travel trade, business development, air service, airline operations, sales or marketing would be considered an asset
  • Familiarity with transportation and logistics related to Airport/Airline business
  • Crosscultural skills; A second language is an asset
  • Ability to research, analyze, and present data gathered from a wide variety of reference sources
  • Collaboration, Communication & Interpersonal skills
  • Negotiation & persuasion skills
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication with an emphasis on strong stakeholder
  • Public speaking & presentations skills
  • Strong attention to detail resulting in excellent output
  • Advanced knowledge of MSOffice, including Word and PowerPoint, Excel
  • Ability to secure and maintain appropriate airport security clearance and acceptable criminal record check is required
