this position works out of the Delta Toronto Airport Hotel and performs payroll and accounts payable/receivable duties for our sister hotel in Ottawa. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic leader who supports career growth and development

Job Purpose


Manage the operational activities related to the generation of the bi-weekly payroll for approximately 100 employees as part of payroll operations.

Participate in the resolution of payroll related issues in a unionized setting.

Perform accounts payable/receivable functions. Pay bills for the organization and maintain the accounts payable ledger. Analyze and process transactions.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process biweekly payroll and statements of earnings and deductions.
  • Check figures, postings, and documents for accuracy.
  • Maintain, update, create, secure, and archive employee payroll records and files.
  • Review, verify, and reconcile punches, hours worked, pay adjustments, and other payrelated information, and post information onto designated records.
  • Review, verify, and reconcile punches, hours worked, pay adjustments, other payrelated information and ensure it is all processed according to the Local 261 collective agreement and the Employment Standards Act of , and post information onto designated records.
  • Back up transaction files and transmit to payroll system according to company procedures.
  • Perform year end balancing procedures with the T4 and year end payables accruals.
  • Perform year end procedures to terminated employee records and inactive vendors list.
  • Accounts Payable_
  • Ensure all purchases are authorized and suppliers/vendors are paid within payment term.
  • Verify purchase orders with signatures, corporate policy.
  • Match invoices to packing slips and purchase orders.
  • Post properly supported and approved invoices to computerized accounting software.
  • Perform timely EFT payments and cheque runs to ensure payables are current.
  • Check figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes. Organize, secure, and maintain all files, records, cash and cash equivalents in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Record, store, access, and/or analyze computerized financial information.
  • Classify, code, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals, ledgers, and/or computers.
  • Prepare, maintain, audit, and distribute statistical, financial, accounting, auditing, or payroll reports.
  • Complete periodend closing procedures and reports as specified. Participate in internal, external, and regulatory audit processes and ensure compliance with SOPs.
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Certified Payroll Practitioner preferred
  • Three to five years hotel payroll experience and knowledge of labor legislation required
  • Accounting software experience required
  • Solid experience in payroll management and knowledge of labor legislation

Physical Requirements

  • Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 10 pounds without assistance
  • Enter workrelated information using computers and point of sales systems
  • Must be able to sit for long period of time
