Toronto, Ontario, Canada Scotiabank Full time

Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

The world is changing faster than ever and so are we

"Big data", "AI" and "machine learning" are essential components of our daily operations. With decades of data fueling numerous models deployed across diverse systems, we are seeking smart, talented team players who are results-oriented, possess a broad understanding of best-in-class processes, and are eager to contribute to bringing our vision to life. Are you prepared to join the Winning Team responsible for managing high-performing prediction and forecasting models crucial for automated risk-management decisions impacting millions of customers and safeguarding hundreds of $billions every day?

Model Quality is our top priority, ensuring that everything we create is done right the first time and built to last. The ideal candidate for this role is not interested in developing only a few models annually but is ready to tackle the challenge of comprehending and managing hundreds of models spanning various problem types and methodologies, designing and executing testing plans, and establishing capabilities to stress, test, and validate these models before and after implementation, as well as during ongoing production runs.

As a key member of Scotiabank's Retail & Small Business Model Operations team, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the entire model lifecycle, from development and implementation to deployment, management, and governance, ensuring everything unfolds as effectively and efficiently as possible. In Model Operations, we are dedicated to equipping our stakeholders with the best data and tools available to build and run top-notch models. Our focus is on achieving high-quality results quickly and accurately, while leveraging a blend of business/technical consulting, collaborative development, and verification/testing approaches.

We thrive on automation, enjoy collaborating with internal peers across business strategy, risk, and technology, as well as external vendors. Our aim is to simplify modeling and enhance model usability.

Rapid market delivery of models is crucial, but ensuring they are accurate is paramount. This is where you come in.

What Are We Looking For?

  • A key primary contributor who ensures the proper implementation and monitoring/reporting of advanced risk prediction and forecasting models, focusing on accuracy, precision, stability, explainability, compliance, security, and usefulness
  • A subject matter expert who imparts best-in-class testing and acceptance practices to the department for utilization across all programs
  • A collaborative team player and owner who can effectively prioritize projects and deliver high-value long-term results while remaining responsive to evolving stakeholder needs

The ideal candidate will be a consummate team player comfortable wearing multiple hats:

  • Manager of Quality Assurance/Control/Testing
  • Data Engineer/Testing Automation
  • Data Analyst
Make an Impact

In this role, you will lead the testing of data changes, models, and critical reporting impacting not only our partners but also the bank's quarterly financial filings for investors and the regulator.

You will collaborate regularly with various stakeholders and internal partners, including Model Owners, Technology & Data, and Project Teams.

Is This Role Right for You?
  • You are adept at working with large datasets, specializing in data classification, cleansing, testing, and validation.
  • You possess the ability to design scenario-specific Test Approaches, Test Strategies & Plans, align test cases with requirements, and select appropriate test tools.
  • You comprehend data engineering and modeling concepts to strategize and execute End-to-End testing cycles.
  • You are passionate about ensuring data integrity and quality, with a keen eye for spotting discrepancies in data models.
  • You have a solid foundation in data analysis and testing methodologies, rigorously testing and validating data models to meet high standards.
  • You ensure continuous compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
  • You generate quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, including failed processes, stability studies, corrective actions, and re-validations.
  • You are familiar with automated testing tools and adept at creating and executing detailed test plans, with proficiency in these areas being crucial for success.

  • You are a professional, motivated, and yes, fun individual.
