Program Overview - Employment Services, Community Programs, 815 Danforth Ave

Employment Services is a dynamic and result oriented program within CPU which offers a range of resources, supports and services to respond to the employment needs of job seekers and hiring demands of the employers.

The goal of Employment Services is to help Ontarians find sustainable employment by connecting them to gainful employment opportunities and or guiding individuals on a path to higher skills and trainings to achieve their career goals.


What You Will Do

  • Assist in determining client suitability and eligibility for programs and services.
  • Process intakes, administer, and evaluate indepth assessments to create and support achievable, realistic and individualized Employment Action Plans (EAP).
  • Update client files, EAP, progress and provide statistical reporting and other documentation in identified case management systems and databases.
  • Provide coaching to participants on postemployment and job search skills based on individual client needs outside of the mandatory workshops and make appropriate referrals.
  • Develop and administer retention programming geared to improving longterm employability.
  • Ongoing coaching that supports successful employment retention based on the needs of each participant and/or referrals to internal/external organizations for specialized services include disability, mental health & addiction, housing, income, etc.
  • Support clients in assessing their current circumstances/qualifications against job requirements and labour market information.
  • Share information for education & training opportunities to support long term job retention.
  • Identify those in need of additional job coaching & employability skills development through discussion with participants and/or the employer.
  • Work with the team to complete and wrap around services with the goal of supporting employability and longterm job retention of program participants.
  • Maintain regular monthly contact with participants to track their progress.
  • Provide followup support or provide referrals to further training and/or education.
  • Create opportunities for post program networking and learning events/activities.
  • Regularly discuss clients process and status with colleagues.
  • Make recommendations to job developers for intensive work supports or accommodations needed to assist in developing strategies to support clients with complex needs.
  • Provide onthejob support as needed.
  • Conduct outreach and marketing activities to promote programs & services.
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate various workshops for job seekers & community groups.
  • Support job seekers to access onsite tools & resources in the Resource & Information Centre.
  • Assist in tracking all program activity in client and employer files related to intake data, participation, outcomes, and other required information.
  • Maintain client activity service statistical and financial information for monthly reports.
  • Exceed all other required contractual, client and/or agency requirements.
  • Work in collaboration with other Employment teams ensuring optimum client service.
  • Assist with administration, marketing, other duties as required to support the strategic plans.
  • Follow all agency Health and Safety Policies and procedures.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Degree/Diploma in Social Services, Career Employment Counseling, or related field of study.
  • Extensive knowledge of preemployment supports methods, retraining opportunities, and Labour market information and resources.
  • Knowledge and/or connections with community resources and supports available for job seekers of all demographics.
  • Desire to work in a multicultural setting with sound decision making and judgment skills.
  • Experience in career counseling (job search, job development & job retention) an asset.

  • Advanced skills utilizing all Microsoft Office Applications and Databases and the ability to quickly learn new software and programs.
  • Well organized, team player who takes initiative, manages change and can prioritize/multitask targets.
  • Crisis Intervention and First Aid Certified is considered an asset.
