Team Manager, HR Services

Occasional Teaching Division

One (1) Year Term Assignment effective June 2024

Monday - Friday, 35 hours per week

Union Exempt Level 9:
$101,300 to $119,200


Reporting to the General Manager of People, Culture and Leadership, the Team Manager is responsible for recruiting and staffing activities within the Occasional Teaching portfolio and supervising a team of HR professionals.

The Team Manager leads the coordination of recruiting and staffing for occasional teaching staff; facilitates the establishment of selection procedures; administers the performance management process; and ensures occasional/supply lists are maintained and up-to-date.


The Team Manager provides direction, advice and interpretation of collective agreements, government Acts and regulations as they pertain to employment issues; supports in the development and/or modification of District policies and procedures, collective agreements and employee handbooks; provides advice and support to Superintendents, Principals, Vice-Principals, Managers and Supervisors; participates as a member of local labour/management committees and acts as a resource at grievance and arbitration proceedings, and during collective bargaining.


Qualifications:


Post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources or a related field and 5-6 years of related management experience; including experience working in an educational, and unionized environment.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

CHRP designation is considered an asset.

Thorough knowledge of human resource administration, HR principles and practices in an educational and unionized environment.

Thorough knowledge of collective agreements, handbooks and relevant employment and education legislation.

Managerial skills for hiring, supervising and evaluating staff; and demonstrates leadership for coaching, mentoring, and motivating teams.

Commitment to teamwork and team building.


Excellent communication skills required in order to respond, clarify or request pertinent information from others, either in writing or through verbal conversations, and must demonstrate interpersonal qualities to establish and maintain effective working relationships, including using sensitivity and empathy with affected stakeholders.

Oral communication skills for making presentations in large and small group settings;
Writing skills for preparing reports, complex correspondence, and communications to the system.


Organizational skills, as well as time management techniques, for organizing and planning work, juggling multiple priorities and demands; and meeting deadlines.

Significant judgment skills required for decision-making, and the ability to take appropriate action to successfully resolve problems and conflicts.

Project planning skills in order to initiate, direct and manage projects to completion.

High degree of discretion required when dealing with sensitive and confidential information.

Proficiency in French and English is considered an asset.

Access to reliable transportation when required to visit schools/administrative sites
