JOB SUMMARY:


The Cultural Administrator is an ongoing effort in the capacity-building plan for the Cultural Department, particularly in the administrative organizational outlook of the department's growth.

Working along the vision of the existing Cultural team, the Administrator will be responsible for completing and developing a hybrid of office organizational systems (Excel, SharePoint) and creating a seamless stream of communication for event-planning and relationship-building.

They will primarily work in the Cultural Department, and collaboratively work with the Language and Education departments.

Primarily under the guidance of the Cultural Program Manager they will oversee the development and evolution of the Cultural Department.


JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Immerse yourself into the Nation's Cultural capacity building plan and be mentored and developed and, in turn, provide mentorship and manage cultural capacity building programs with teaching staff, elders, the community, other departments internally and with external partners including building upon MST relationships.
  • Working collaboratively with the Cultural Committee and relevant teams to ensure the revitalization of cultural practices, traditional laws, provide cultural teachings, support, and formalize appropriate Tsleil-Waututh cultural protocol.
  • Perform cultural office reception and coordination duties for Cultural Department
  • Support cultural events, ceremonial, spiritual planning, and joint planning committees/working groups as directed for TWN as a whole (graduation, baby ceremony etc.)
  • Coordinate external and internal cultural requests from between departments and external relations, this includes relationship building experience.
  • Alongside the Cultural Manager formalizing details for a variety of cultural programming such as department protocol and practices with other departments. Organizing cultural community events, including virtual programming, and coordinating opportunities both internally and externally within the Nation. This also includes planning external events where MST representation is required and ensuring TWN's "Face" is wellrepresented, and our Traditional Knowledge Holders experience little barriers in representing TWN.
  • Working cohesively with Community development, building relationships with community, leadership, elders, and other departments as necessary
  • Act as a streamline between other departments regarding their cultural requirements and participation within the cultural department, external partners and their aspirations toward TWN relationshipbuilding and assisting in Cultural Committee agendas.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 Dogwood Diploma.
  • Be versed in Excel and SharePoint
  • Organized, punctual, reliable, positive, and able to work cohesively with a team.
  • Strong work ethic, selfmotivated, with the ability to work with mínimal supervision;
  • Strategic longterm thinking to oversee the growth of the Culture and Language department as well as some degree of cultural competency
  • Combination of formal and informal education, work and lived experience, and cultural knowledge skills will be considered.
  • Knowledge of the Hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and/or Sníchim language or willing to learn the language
  • First Aid Certificate an asset
  • Class 5 Driver's license preferred
  • Must successfully complete criminal record check for vulnerable populations

  • Some level of social skills as there are constant levels of interaction with all age groups in the community
  • Diplomatic skills as there will be levels of relationshipbuilding

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical Demands:

  • Comfortable working with students and adults of all ages and abilities.
  • Willing and able to work a physically demanding position and available to work occasional evenings, overnights and weekends.
  • May involve sitting at a desk or typing for extended periods of time.

Mental Focus

  • May deal with children and youth who can, from time to time, be demanding and challenging.
  • Must be able to remain patient and committed to teaching and may have to engage in conflict resolution or crisis management at times.
  • May have to manage/coordinate with a number of projects/events at one time, and may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs of children, youth, elders, and organizations.

Environmental Conditions

  • Interacts with community members, employees, management and the general public.
  • Noise levels may escalate during activities, events and outings.
  • Weather and conditions in the outdoors are unpredictable and can be wet, cold and uncomfortable
