Area Manager based out of Lower Mainland **.

The role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, service and repair of all equipment and process systems in the Lower Mainland, including our new biomass plant in Burnaby.


What you'll do

  • Oversee multiutility operations in the assigned area, ensuring they are efficient, safe, and in compliance with all relevant policies, codes, regulations, and laws while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Develop and build new and existing client relationships with strategic client potential, identifying and capitalizing on business development opportunities to grow revenues and profitability, and assisting in the development of proposals for new business and integrated solutions
  • Manage assigned operational profit and loss budgets, ensuring financial targets are met and taking corrective action as needed
  • Direct and supervise staff, participating in recruitment, selection, orientation, training, and evaluation of employees; maintaining a safe, secure, and legal work environment; developing personal growth opportunities
  • Manage client expectations and satisfaction with effective communication and resolution of client concerns;
  • Perform and manage the completion of routine operations/inspections, maintenance, repair, replacement, startup, shutdown, adjustment and troubleshooting on all systems including but not limited to the following:
  • Thermal generation plant e.g., biomass, natural gas and electric boilers, sewer heat recovery, air/ground/water source heat pumps, heat recovery chillers and all associated plant auxiliary equipment.
  • District energy distribution systems and energy transfer stations
  • Electrical generation and distribution systems
  • Controls, instrumentation and automation systems and all safety systems
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process, providing forecasting data for assigned region;
  • Conduct Site Hazard Assessments, Job Hazard Assessments, Field Level Hazard Assessments and site inspections and assist with the development of safety documentation such as OERPs, SJP, SWPs, ERP and SOPs;
  • Manage record keeping and maintain operational and performance data including monthly KPI's and reports as required;
  • Provide work direction, technical advice and leadership to District Energy Utility Operators and other designated staff; prepare schedules to ensure effective coverage of operations during vacation and educational leaves;
  • Develop training documentation to ensure operators are appropriately trained;
  • Ensure that the plant maintenance management system (Lucity) is up to date, which includes adding new maintenance procedures as required;
  • Identify and report performance and operational deficiencies to senior management and/or regulatory authorities as required, and take corrective action to prevent injuries, financial loss, reduction in utility availability/reliability and system failure;
  • Participate in emergency first response and oncall rotation as required.

What you bring
Experience

  • You have a minimum of 5 years related work experience in District Energy or related disciplines.
Education and Certifications

  • You are a 4th Class Power Engineer, and if you have your 3rd Class, even better A Bachelor's degree in a related field would be an asset. The musthaves also include a valid Class 5 driver's license (sorry, not for those who have an 'N') and First Aid Level II.
Nice to Have

  • It would be ideal if you have HVAC, SCADA and HMI experience.

  • Act as a resource to staff members for advice and guidance on potential approaches and problem situations.
  • Develop and manage cross functional internal relationships to resolve issues and create efficiencies.
