Duties:

Reporting to the Campus Administrator, tiwšɛmawtxw Campus, this position is responsible for coordinating programs and courses in Professional Development and Training (PD&T). PD&T is the home for Continuing Education at Vancouver Island University, providing learning opportunities to students, professionals, and community members pursuing educational and professional goals.

The successful applicant will oversee existing programs and lead the development of new courses and programs relevant to the qathet region and beyond. Some PD&T programs are delivered by contract in partnership with local organizations while others are delivered to the general public on a cost-recovery basis.

Specific responsibilities include:

Planning, implementing, and administering PD&T courses and programs offered through the tiwšɛmawtxw Campus Identifying and leading the development of new courses and programs Supervising PD&T Program Assistants and liaising with instructors, trainers, and contractors Ensuring all programming is delivered in a fiscally responsible manner Collaborating with other VIU departments, funding agencies, and local partners, including Tla'amin Nation

The successful applicant must be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrate initiative and self-motivation, and provide dynamic leadership within the PD&T team. They will be proficient in report writing; researching and submitting funding applications; monitoring the PD&T budget; coordinating contracts, services, and agreements with instructors, trainers, etc.; project management; meeting deadlines; balancing multiple timelines and priorities; and adhering to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant subject area from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum three years of recent and related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Demonstrated grant/funding proposal writing Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in a relevant field Experience working with indigenous communities, especially Tla'amin Nation and sister nations, including knowledge of Indigenous governance practices and cultural protocols Experience in post-secondary course planning/curriculum development Familiarity with VIU's systems, policies and procedures Training in trauma-informed practice Valid Class 5 Driver's license (and a confirmed satisfactory driving record)
