Duties:

Vancouver Island University's tiwšɛmawtxʷCampus is seeking a Program Coordinator to lead the delivery of the Education Assistant and Community Support (EACS) program in the Tla'amin community oft̓išosəmbeginning in Fall 2024. This position coordinates all aspects of this special program delivery, including instruction, student support, program operations, and reporting. The Program Coordinator works directly with program instructors, student support personnel, and staff from VIU and Tla'amin Nation to ensure the successful completion of the program. This position will be based in t̓išosəmwith some hours completed on campus and/or remotely.

Reporting to the Campus Administrator,tiwšɛmawtxʷCampus and supervised by the Program Coordinator for Professional Development and Training (PD&T), the Program Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Coordinating and managing the delivery of the EACS program;
  • Liaising with and supporting program instructors, trainers, contractors, and staff at the tiwšɛmawtxʷCampus and Tla'amin Nation Education Department;
  • Monitoring and adhering to the overall program budget;
  • Completing all program reporting as required by Tla'amin Nation and VIU;
  • Collaborating with other VIU departments, service areas, and local partners as necessary;
  • Troubleshooting any challenges that arise in the delivery of the program;
  • Assisting with other PD&T programs as required; and
  • Attending staff meetings and other meetings.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant subject area, or equivalent, from an appropriately accredited institution, and a minimum of three years recent and related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate:

  • Experience working with Tla'amin Nation and/or other Indigenous communities
  • Effective communication, verbally and in writing
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Creativity and flexibility in problem-solving
  • Proven interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license (and a confirmed satisfactory driving record)

The successful applicant must be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrate initiative and self-motivation. They will be proficient in report writing and information management, budgeting, contract implementation, and project management. The successful applicant will demonstrate their ability to meet deadlines, balance multiple timelines and priorities, and adhere to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in post-secondary program planning/development
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations in a positive and safe manner
  • Familiarity with VIU's systems, policies and procedures
  • Training in trauma-informed practice
