Duties:

The Workplace Essential Skills Training (WEST) Program serves neurodivergent adults and focuses on: vocational planning, employment preparation, personal management skills for life and work, and job skills for work in the service sector. The program combines classroom learning with hands-on training in work sites.

Under Direction of the Chair of the WEST program and reporting to thetiwšɛmawtxʷ Campus Administrator, this position will instruct the courses outlined below, prepare course materials, provide individual and group instruction, facilitate student support, conduct student evaluations, complete all required grading and record keeping, liaise with the WEST department chair andtiwšɛmawtxʷ Program Coordinator, participate as an active member of the instructional team, and participate in staff meetings and committees as required.

  • Module 3 Retail & Food Services

Year 2

  • Module 4 Transition to Independence
  • Module 5 Community Connections
  • Module 6 Skills for Independence

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success. Successful candidates will participate in activities outside the classroom including student support and department committees.


Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with 24 credits in a relevant discipline and a master's degree, both from an appropriately accredited institution; teacher training or proven related experience in teaching adults demonstrated by teaching experience with corroborating positive evaluations. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Ability and recent relevant experience teaching adults with disabilities
  • Ability to instruct the subject area(s) identified
  • Skills, experience, and sensitivity in particular disability issues in relation to disadvantaged adult learners
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving skills supporting students
  • Ability to access and develop course materials
  • Well-developed skills in working with a team in conjunction with an ability to work independently
  • Experience working in career development and life skills fields with persons with disabilities
  • Experience working with disability issues in community-based settings

  • Training in trauma-informed practice
