Reporting to the Director Business Development, Renewables within ATCO EnPower, You will be responsible for driving business value by formulating deal parameters and leading commercial negotiations in support of project execution; including potential greenfield capital investments, acquisition and divestiture transactions, new product and service offerings, long term revenue contracts, partnership agreements and intercompany, affiliate services agreements, in support of the Business Development lifecycle. This role supports a collaborative team environment and requires cross-functional and cross-business influence to enable success.

What You Get To Do:

  • Responsible for leading and developing the commercial construct, preparing and having negotiating positions approved, negotiating contracts to achieve the negotiation positions and managing the project agreement execution
  • Provide guidance and subject matter expert advice on contractual commitments from existing agreements for projects and ensuring effective hand-over to Asset Management that ATCO Renewables is compliant with its commercial obligations.
  • Support Operations and Asset Management with ongoing commercial advise as required
  • Provide commercial expertise to project developers, project execution team, operations team and business planning and strategy in support of general business objectives.
  • The role will work intimately with both internal and external legal counsel to prepare agreements for negotiation and will work seamlessly with these legal experts to close ensure agreements are delivered to counterparties within project required timelines.
  • Supporting and assessing key value drivers of the economic evaluations for greenfield, Merger & Acquisitions, and new product/services opportunities

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, Business Commerce, Law; or STEM degree with post graduate business degree MBA is preferred
  • 10 years industry experience with in depth knowledge of non-regulated energy and electricity generation sectors from a project development, deal structuring, and economic valuation perspective with a preference given to Renewable Electricity generation
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in deal design and development, successful conclusion of negotiations for commercial agreements across greenfield & brownfield project developments, acquisitions & divestitures, and products/services opportunities, knowledge of standard industry agreement templates is advantageous
  • In-depth knowledge of the Alberta electricity market and key value drivers of Renewable Energy projects
  • Strategic thinking and business acumen with ability to analyze and interpret economic impact of business opportunities and provide recommendations how to best structure a transaction
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge in developing and negotiating various types of commercial agreements including Power Purchase Agreements, Joint Ventures, and asset or company Purchase & Sale Agreements
  • Extensive experience in developing and leveraging relationships with both internal and external partners, counterparties, and professional advisory services; including legal and financial
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of Business Development, Project Execution and Operations professionals and demonstrated broad knowledge of other disciplines within the commercial function
  • Experienced in developing economic evaluation methodologies, models and associated analysis combined with the acute ability to articulate valuation findings and interpret key value drivers
  • Demonstrated ability in solving unique and complex commercial problems that have a broad impact on financial margins
  • Extremely strong communication and presentation skills; including both the ability to write business cases and the capability of presenting work to others including executive management
  • Excellent project management and time management skills to prioritize multiple contract negotiations under tight timelines, to deliver commercial support work as advertised and promised to meet project outcomes
  • Strong collaboration skills and success in working in a matrix environment, especially demonstrating influence leadership skills to enable cross functional business outcomes
  • Expert knowledge of Excel and MS Office applications (PowerPoint, Word)
