Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team at Terravest Renewables. As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing electrical and control systems, ensuring they meet safety and regulatory standards and industry best practices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to the growth and success of our organization in the renewables sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the electrical engineering technical lead for Terravest Renewables, responsible for delivering electrical engineering work products, including acting as the subject matter expert within the Terravest Renewables engineering team and providing technical guidance to manufacturing, site integration, commissioning, operations, and maintenance personnel for Terravest Renewables systems.
  • Act as the responsible member for electrical engineering practice in accordance with APEGA and EGBC engineering firm requirements.
  • Design and develop electrical systems for Terravest gas processing packages, including power distribution, control systems, and related components, in accordance with contract requirements and jurisdictional design criteria.
  • Generate electrical and control system schematics, single-line diagrams, cable schedules, panel schedules, hazardous area classification, grounding layouts, and other wiring diagrams for the manufacturing and field integration of Terravest gas systems.
  • Create electrical design work packages, specifications, and change requests when outsourcing distribution panels, motor control centers, and control panels.
  • Develop electrical bill of materials and cable schedules to facilitate procurement and installation activities.
  • Perform power consumption and load calculations as part of project deliverables.
  • Ensure that the electrical designs and installations adhere to Canadian/US electrical codes and regulations and coordinate with regulatory authorities for permitting and approvals.
  • Apply standard engineering best practices, be the electrical and controls system subject matter expert on the Terravest Renewables engineering team, and provide electrical consultation support for the manufacturing, site integration, and commissioning staff for Terravest systems.
  • Assist in reviewing and summarizing relevant codes, regulations, and client specifications and advising on technical and commercial impacts during equipment estimation and proposal stages.
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing planning and execution.
  • In a systematic manner, identify and resolve electrical issues and challenges that arise during design, construction, and operation, and implement necessary design improvements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical & Control Systems Engineering (or related discipline) from an accredited institution.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng), preference for practicing status with APEGA or EGBC.
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering, specializing in power distribution systems and control systems design.
  • Preference for candidates who have acted as the responsible member for electrical engineering practice for an APEGA or EGBC registered engineering firms.
  • Experience in the oil & gas or petrochemical industries is an asset, preferably from an equipment supplier, EPCM, or Owner/Operator environment.
  • Experience coordinating activities with 3rd party consultants, electrical equipment vendors, shop electricians, and field electricians.
  • Working knowledge with electrical design drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, SmartPlant Electrical, EPlan, SEE Electrical, CADWorx Electrical).
  • Practical experience designing power distribution systems for 5 to 50 end devices with electrical motor sizes up to 2,000 hp, including specification and selection of MCCs and VFDs.
  • Practical experience designing control systems on various industry-standard platforms, with I/O counts between 150 and 2,000 points.
  • Practical experience using heat trace design software (i.e., TraceCalc/CompuTrace) and creation of electrical heat tracing isometric schematics/wiring diagrams to aid manufacturing and on-site implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and regulations (Canadian Electrical Code) NFPA70, IEEE, and ISA standards in electrical engineering design.
  • Effective communication skills, comfortable explaining technical matters to vendors, consultants.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrate exceptional critical thinking skills and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to prioritize and oversee a variety of tasks from several projects at once.
  • Must be able to occasionally travel and engage in manufacturing, pre-commissioning, construction, and site installation relating to electrical equipment in hazardous areas.
