Addiction Services Central Ontario is seeking a highly motivated and energetic individual for the position of Group Facilitator 1. This position will also be supporting Back on Track and other teams, programs and services as required.


With ASCO's current increase of in-person services, this position will be based in the Aurora office location, reporting to the Assigned Supervisor.


ASCO is required to follow all public health and provincial directives as well as of those of our Ontario Health Team partners as related to the pandemic and other health issues that may come forward, including but not limited to vaccination requirements.


This is a part-time contract position until March 31, 2025, for 21 hours per week (0.6 FTE), with a minimum of
one evening per week, providing services throughout York Region.

Weekend work is also expected (i.e. some Saturdays). The incumbent will provide direct service to an assigned caseload of clients, as determined by the agency. The hourly wage rate is $29.75.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Determine the client's level of substance use as well as other risk taking behaviours and referral to the education program or to the treatment program.
  • Facilitate/cofacilitate a structured educational group to clients in accordance with ASCO requirements.
  • Facilitate/cofacilitate part of a structured group treatment to clients in accordance with ASCO requirements.
  • Conduct followup sessions with individuals who have participated in the education program or treatment program, as required by ASCO.
  • Participate in regular supervision with the Supervisor, or as determined by ASCO.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • College Diploma in one of the sciences or a healthrelated discipline, with a considerable knowledge of substance abuse issues
  • Member or member in progress with one of the regulatory colleges under the Regulated Health Professionals Act (ex: College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario; Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers), a definite asset
  • Ability to facilitate groups to diverse clients with substance use issues
  • Ability to foster a strong therapeutic alliance with clients
  • Proven ability to do presentations to clients, the general public and other service providers
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills and ability to work independently
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • The ability to provide services in French and any additional languages a definite asset
Other requirements

  • A valid driver's license and access to an insured vehicle
  • A successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check, as per agency policy and procedures
