Position Summary

UHN Data & Analytics supports UHN's growing demand for data, data-driven insights and helps TeamUHN ensure the needs of the patients come first. Our collective goal is to better see, understand and use data to help UHN become a data-driven organization, which will help us achieve UHN's strategic goals and ultimately advance care, research, and education. UHN Data & Analytics supports UHN in data-driven decisions, data literacy, performance improvement, data governance, data infrastructure/tools, advanced analytics, and automation.

The Performance Improvement & Excellence (PIE) team works under the direction of the Director and the Chief Data & Analytics Officer to foster a data-driven culture and learning health system. Working closely with clinical and administrative stakeholders, the PIE team helps identify complex issues and implement innovative solutions to improve quality, operational efficiency, and patient safety across various clinical programs.

The Senior Manager, Performance Improvement & Excellence (PIE), role plays a key leadership position in UHN Data & Analytics. Your primary focus is championing the establishment of a data-driven culture and a learning health system. Serving as a data navigator and translator, you integrate insights to provide a holistic view of performance and support informed decision-making. Your role involves working closely with clinical and non-clinical leaders across UHN to identify complex problems and opportunities for improvement in quality, operational efficiency, effectiveness, and safety of care.

Duties

  • Establishes and nurtures strategic partnerships across UHN, understanding business processes, key performance indicators, and organizational culture.
  • Builds strong collaborative relationships with clinical and non-clinical leaders, serving as a trusted advisor and primary liaison between Data & Analytics and Clinical Programs.
  • Lead clinical programs in adopting a data-driven culture, utilizing data to inform strategic decisions, and drive performance improvements.
  • Develop and manage processes to establish standard operating policies and procedures, key performance measures and targets, in collaboration with Clinical Leadership and Decision Support
  • Demonstrate complex problem-solving, collaborate with stakeholders to develop innovative strategies for business problems, leveraging resources and technology to enhance quality, streamline workflows, and achieve objectives.
  • Skillfully navigate and lead through organizational change, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and addressing resistance effectively.
  • Lead a team of cross-functional analysts to generate insights, conduct in-depth analysis and oversee initiatives that enhance the quality, efficiency, and safety of healthcare services
  • Effectively manage all aspects of human resources within the team, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Represent UHN Data & Analytics in various leadership meetings and committees, advocating for hospital needs and required results, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Health/Hospital Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • At minimum ten (10) years of practical experience in hospital/healthcare management/leadership roles with a proven understanding of data analysis principles, data interpretation, data visualization, and quality improvement
  • Certifications in Project Management Professional (PMP) and Lean/Six Sigma
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collegially and interact effectively with diverse stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Extensive stakeholder/relationship and change management knowledge and expertise.
  • Ability to effectively communicate data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, promoting data literacy throughout the organization.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical ability with attention to detail, capable of visualizing complex organizational data to derive insights.
  • Capacity to identify and address complex issues in healthcare delivery and develop actionable strategies for improvement.
  • Highly inquisitive and can stay on top of the latest trends and industry best practices.
  • Proven experience in managing a high performing and diverse team
  • Additional certifications such as Business Relationship Management Professional (BRMP), Certified Change Management Professional (CCMP), Program Management Professional (PgMP), Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Epic and data visualization applications considered an asset.
