Nova Scotia, Canada Government of Nova Scotia Full time

About Us

Join the Department of Community Services (DCS), a dynamic department offering a wide range of programs and services including Child and Family Wellbeing (CFW), Employment Support Services (ESS), Income Assistance (IA), Homelessness and Supportive Housing, and the Disability Support Program (DSP).

The Disability Support Program (DSP) is dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities to pursue a rewarding life. Our goal is to implement global best practices that respect human rights and choice, enhancing community engagement. We envision Nova Scotia as a place where individuals with disabilities can lead the life they desire, in inclusive and supportive communities where they can develop relationships, explore interests, and reach their full potential as valued citizens.

About Our Opportunity

We are looking for DSP Team Leads to oversee day-to-day operations and support the implementation of a new community-based program, which is crucial for addressing discrimination against persons with disabilities.

As a Team Lead reporting to Regional Hub Managers within DSP, your responsibilities include supporting DSP Programs, collaborating with community members, and ensuring inclusive practices. You will guide your team through new initiatives, create safe environments, and foster effective partnerships.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Provide recommendations for program enhancements and oversee their delivery and evaluation
  • Lead team recruitment, selection, onboarding, discipline, performance management, and grievance procedures
  • Support team through change, offering coaching, conflict resolution, and professional development
  • Mentor team to achieve department priorities
  • Build partnerships in communities, promote local services, and empower persons with disabilities in program improvements
  • Promote inclusivity and human-centered approaches
  • Cultivate professional relationships in the workplace and community

Qualifications and Experience

Seeking candidates with post-secondary education in Management, Social Sciences, Disability Supports, or related fields, paired with experience in disability services and team leadership. Benefits

Government of Nova Scotia offers a range of benefits such as Defined Benefit Pension Plan, Health, Dental, Life Insurance, Disability, Vacation, and Family Assistance Programs based on employment status and union agreements.

Working Conditions

This role involves work in an office environment with frequent travel across the province to various locations, including government offices, DSP program sites, and healthcare facilities. The position demands personal resiliency and adaptability to navigate through complex, emotionally-charged situations.

Additional Information

Frequent regional travel is essential. Eight permanent positions available. Worksites determined during offer negotiation.
