Purpose
The Operations Control Manager will aid with monitoring regulatory controls for the Volcker Rule.

The Operations control Manager will assist the Senior Manager develop and manage the internal reporting, escalation, and communication strategies, ensure the ongoing alignment of the monitoring controls to the regulatory requirements and work with Internal Controls to provide timely rule interpretation.

Moreover, this person will be asked to assist the Senior Manager with the testing and audit engagements, provide timely turnaround on desk queries, and develop strong relationships, all delivered using high level communication skills.


Accountabilities

  • Responsible for monitoring, and reporting of regulatory controls for Volcker Rule requirements.
  • Ensure execution and record keeping of daily and periodic monitoring controls relating to the Volcker Rule.
  • Ensure maintenance of documentation of all processes and procedures relating to Volcker controls.
  • Assist with team projects, documentation consolidation, and other ad hoc tasks assigned by the Senior Manager.
  • When required, work with Technology teams to design and transfer manual processes for automation by building business requirements and providing process expertise.
  • Liaise with Technology, Internal Controls, Compliance and other relevant stakeholders to identify, prioritize and solution regulatory issues, gaps and enhancements.
  • Assist the Senior Manager with developing materials, such as presentations, Excel templates, incident reports etc. and addressing ad hoc queries from management.
  • Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in daytoday activities and decisions
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of daytoday business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Requirements:

  • Business/ Finance/ Legal degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years previous experience in in a Capital Markets environment
  • Understanding and familiarity with other areas of the Bank, including Product Control, Risk Management, Technology, Legal, Compliance, etc.
  • Strong relationship building competencies to build/maintain productive relationships with key stakeholders and members of the project team.
  • Expert analytic and problem solving capability under time pressure
  • Exceptional presentation and written communications skills
  • Proven track record of meeting deliverables
  • Prior operations experience, or project experience, in a management or business analyst (BA) role, would be an asset
