The Opportunity:
Beginning in August of the -25 academic year, a School Counsellor is needed to work in the Senior and Middle School on a part-time, contract basis, while teaching one section of Careers. As a member of the School Counselling and Social Work Team, the Counsellor will support students in grades 7 and/or 8 in academic planning, social-emotional learning, and well-being.
Responsibilities will include:
- Provide individual and small group counselling to meet the social, emotional, and well-being needs of students;
- Liaise and collaborate with teachers, social workers, nurses, students, parents, and administrators;
- Participate in Parent-Teacher and/or Counsellor-Parent interviews;
- Support students with self-management, self-awareness, social and relationship skills;
- Develop, collaborate, and deliver SEL curricular lessons and workshops for students;
- Teach students distress tolerance, self-motivation, and stress management skills;
- Assist in planning and participate in well-being education sessions for parents and employees;
- Keep abreast of current resources, research, and best practices to support student well-being.
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate is a passionate educator with a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience and Additional Qualifications in Guidance and/or Counselling. Knowledge of the IB Middle Years Program would be considered an asset. The candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and social-emotional learning.
