The Alberta Chief Firearms Office (ACFO) was established in September 2021 and administers the federal Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) to Albertans.

The ACFO support safe communities by managing the ownership, purchase, movement and use of firearms within the province through the responsible administration of the federal Firearms Act.

Are you enthusiastic about working for the public service? The ACFO is looking to hire a policy analyst for their Edmonton Office.

Reporting to the Manager, Research and Policy, you are an integral team member for the fulfillment of the accountabilities of the AFCO.

You will support the work of the AFCO through the provision of research and analysis, technical analysis and interpretation, intergovernmental analysis and supporting broader operational planning and change management efforts.

Your responsibilities include policies and procedures with focus on addressing the illegal use of firearms, you will also support the development of safety and security educational campaigns and in addition to the development of a comprehensive annual communications plan and ACFO operational planning.

You will work collaboratively with internal ACFO partners, other Government of Alberta partners and other stakeholders to plan, analyze and support and coordinate implementation of substantial high-level priority ACFO policies and projects.

The position conducts critical analysis of relevant information to provide strategic advice and options on a number of major policy and engagement initiatives that support the Government of Alberta's strategic directions with regards to firearms.

CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING:

University graduation in a related field (Sociology, Criminology, Public Administration or Public Policy) plus two years' experience in policy analysis, writing briefings, communications, and research analysis.

The following experience/skills will be considered assets:
Previous or current working experience within Canadian Government (federal, provincial, municipal, territorial, or other levels of government)

Previous or current working experience with drafting communications and briefings for a variety of audiences, including government decision making.

Knowledge of Canadian firearms regulatory framework
Master's degree is considered an asset.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal Enhanced Reliability security clearance.
This posting will be used to fill one full-time permanent position in Edmonton.

25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
