Role Responsibilities

The Tourism Policy and Strategy Branch within the department of Tourism and Sport leads the Government of Alberta's Tourism Strategy, which aims to grow the tourism sector from $10 billion per year in visitor expenditures to $25 billion by 2035. The Tourism Policy and Strategy Branch works closely with Travel Alberta, collaborates on cross-government efforts and with the tourism industry to drive economic growth, diversification, investment attraction, and job creation in Alberta's tourism sector.

Reporting to the Director, Tourism Policy and Strategy, the Senior Policy Advisor performs research and analysis to inform decision making by senior leadership, and works across government and with Travel Alberta to drive implementation of the Tourism Strategy. The Senior Policy Advisor will be responsible for leading implementation of key initiatives contained in the Tourism Strategy.

Tourism and Sport is a lean and fast paced department. The successful candidate should be a natural leader who embraces flexibility, thrives in a dynamic working environment, and is able to balance multiple priorities at once.

Responsibilities:

Policy development and administration - Work across ministry and government to drive implementation of the Tourism Strategy, towards the overarching goal of growing annual visitor expenditure in Alberta from $10 billion to $25 billion by 2035 Research - Conduct jurisdictional and environmental scans to help inform tourism policy development with overarching goal of driving economic growth, diversification, investment attraction, and job creation Ensuring tourism priorities Stakeholder Engagement - Consult and coordinate with Ministry staff, interdepartmental contacts, and external stakeholders where appropriate to develop policy options that support planning and development of tourism policies I nformation Requests / Action Requests / Briefing s - Draft briefing notes and correspondence responding to tourism and other related issues, as appropriate
