QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in health science;
  • Minimum of 5 years of research or program management experience, with responsibility for monitoring progress and developing budgets and financial reporting;
  • 3 years of experience managing research funding processes, grant proposal writing, and people management;
  • Working knowledge of grant competitions cycle with a background in/knowledge of health services research, health systems administration, and/or the medical field;
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), including the ability to act with tact, diplomacy, and professionalism, and handle sensitive information with discretion;
  • Proven ability to work constructively and professionally with diverse groups of stakeholders, including physicians, scientists, donors, industry representatives, staff, and patients;
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to motivate stakeholder contribution and accountability; experience using project management tools is an asset;
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to organize workload, set priorities, and respond effectively to competing demands; and
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Liaises with grant applicants, scientific reviewers, research institutions, and other key stakeholders.
  • Recruits scientific and lay reviewers and plans peer review meetings.
  • Represents Crohn's and Colitis Canada in Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)'s
  • Community of Practice discussions and meetings.
  • Identifies potential partnership opportunities with Canada's major health research funding agencies, such as CIHR, to leverage Crohn's and Colitis Canada's funds.
  • Reviews all financial reports of funded research to ensure appropriate spending of funds, and follows up and escalates where needed.
  • Reviews all research reports to ensure milestones are being met and research is progressing as described in the recipient's grant submission.
  • Drafts the annual grant competition budget and develops quarterly disbursement schedules to ensure accurate and timely disbursements.
  • Works with the Research Impact Communications & Evaluation Manager to develop, implement, and monitor an evaluative framework to track the impact of research investments.
  • Coaches and mentors direct reports by identifying skill strengths and areas of improvement for individuals.
