Toronto, Ontario, Canada Workplace Safety and Insurance Board Full time

Support the activities of the WSIB's research, grants and information program, including the development of the annual grant and research priorities, administration of funding competitions, maintaining effective relationships with grant recipients and the research community at large, and facilitating dissemination of outcomes related to funded projects and other emerging research.


Major Responsibilities:

1.
Administration of the Research & Grants Program

  • Coordinate and implement the planning processes to operationalize the Research and Grants strategic frameworks
  • Demonstrate proficiency in building tools and resources used for funding competitions, including an annual open call and strategic initiatives for targeted projects
  • Prepare regular status reports on progress of deliverables, as well as outcomes and findings, for senior management
  • Curate and maintain a record of activities that may be used within the program's Annual Report, including indepth analysis of value for money delivered by research and grant projects, for presentation to the advisory committee for endorsement and to executive leadership for approval
  • Facilitate the dissemination of outcomes and findings, as determined by the Round Tables

Administration of Individual Research and Grants

  • Establish and foster internal and external partnerships, and deliver exceptional service to support applicants and recipients of funding to ensure the achievement of strategic research and grant objectives
  • Arrange for legal agreements for strategic research and provide oversight of their execution to ensure compliance, assisting Grant and Research sponsors (VPs) with the administration of agreements
  • Coordinate and manage the budget reconciliation for each grant and research project which includes analyzing expenditures, assessing variance explanations provided by recipients and reporting on the significance of these deviances in terms of the project's ability to remain compliant in meeting its established objectives
  • Establish, monitor and report on performance metrics for research and grants projects
  • Evaluate processes and activities related to the programs administration on an ongoing basis; revise activities to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness

Knowledge translation and exchange and research synthesis

  • Compile and maintain inventories of knowledge translation/evidenceinformed best practice literature tools, resources and capacity building materials
  • Conduct regular scans of emerging research and publications to be summarized and delivered in a user friendly format to support current awareness services of the WSIB Strategic Research team
  • Facilitate activities that promote collaboration between grant recipients and internal stakeholders to ensure funded projects address realworld issues
  • Lead the development and implementation of events (small group discussions, focus groups, and/or virtual research panels)to disseminate research outcomes and/or topics of interest to targeted audiences
  • Evaluate KTE knowledge products on an ongoing basis; revise efforts to ensure maximum relevance and impact; capture and report on both qualitative and quantitative measures of value derived from grant investments on a projectbyproject basis
  • Support jurisdictional and environmental scans conducted by the Strategic Planning Team to support strategic and business planning activities
  • Develop and continuously improve information and knowledge management practices

Job Requirements:

1) Education requirements:

Minimum Level Required

  • University degree
  • Aware of national and international information resources and how to access them through electronic technology.
  • Understanding of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and its impacts on data collection and release of WSIB information for research purposes.

Preferred Level

  • Masters degree
  • Qualifications in knowledge management desirable.

2) Experience:

Minimum Level Required

  • Knowledge and experience with knowledge translation and activities and/or strategic communication
  • 23 years of experience working with researchers, clinicians and/or educators
  • Experience in research administration and grant management processes
  • 3years of experience leading research and analysis and/or planning
  • Ability to identify issues and their impact on WSIB's objectives and business processes, and to assess the gaps in knowledge
  • Knowledge of budget management processes
  • Proven experience using analytical and problemsolving techniques and methodologies
  • Experience developing, implementing and/or maintaining a knowledge management system
  • Experience managing stakeholders
  • Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills
  • Political acumen and diplomacy

Preferred Level

  • 35 years of progressive experience in securing or managing research and/or grant agreements
  • Advanced level of skill with Microsoft Office p
