John Ambulance NS/PEI is seeking a Community Service Coordinator to support the Therapy Dog Program and youth-based programs, with in the department of community services NS/PEI council.

Under the direction of the Community Services Manager, the Community Service Coordinator will provide leadership and guidance to the active Therapy Dog volunteer teams and facilitate youth based programming, in a specific area of the council.


Position Overview

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • With direction from the Manager of Community Services, the community service coordinator will facilitate program activities and support volunteer engagement for the therapy dog program and youth based programming within a specific area of the NS/PEI council.
  • Engage in program development and strategic planning.
  • Data entry and administrative work
  • Representing St. John Ambulance at occasional events and tradeshows
  • Network with other organizations to ensure sustainability and growth of the community service programs.
  • Travel within NS and PEI (when required)
  • Works closely with other members of the Community Services Department in all event activities including special projects, as directed
  • Ensure timely distribution of communication to and from volunteers and as directed by the Community Services Department
  • Professional demeanor and confidentiality of information is always required.

Job Requirements

  • University degree or college diploma in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Management, Social Sciences, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and promote good interpersonal relationships.
  • Experience supporting volunteers in a nonprofit organization.
  • Critical thinking and problemsolving skills
  • Prepare marketing, promotional materials relating to the delivery of the Therapy Dog program.
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, technical) and team oriented.
  • Social media engagement
  • Willingness to adapt to changing tasks and responsibilities.
  • A genuine enjoyment of working with animals.
  • Holds valid driver's license.
  • Travel throughout NS/PEI as required.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends as required.
  • Carry out other duties as directed by the Community Services Manager.
