Albert Public Schools is currently recruiting a
Full Time, Probationary, Interpreter for the Deaf for a work assignment at
Ronald Harvey Elementary School .

More than 9000 students are enrolled in St. Albert Public Schools.

From Preschool to Grade 12, our students learn and succeed in programs that are recognized for excellence and their focus on citizenship and sound values.

As a precondition of employment, all potential new hires will be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (all recommended doses of a vaccine approved by Health Canada and recommended by Alberta Health Services).

Exceptions will only be considered upon proof of a medical condition, or other protected ground under the Alberta Human Rights Act.


Hours of Work:30.0
hrs. /week; 6.0 hrs. /day; Monday-Friday; Full Time Probationary

Hourly Rate:
$26.98 per hour, as per the CUPE Collective Agreement

Monday, August 28, 2023

Specific Needs/Requirements for this position:

  • Interpreter Training Program from a recognized college or university is required (Example: Lakeland College or Grant McEwan)
  • Experience providing interpreter and educational support to an academic student is beneficial
  • Experience working as an interpreter using American Sign Language in an elementary and/or early childhood school setting
  • Experience providing support in a variety of settings for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in social contexts with their peers
  • Experience in supporting the classroom teacher with programming modifications or adaptations as needed
  • Experience delivering interventions and strategies as laid out by the classroom teacher and other transdisciplinary team members
  • Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing consultants and educational audiologists in providing supports for students in a regular classroom setting
  • Use a total communication approach with students includingoral communication, sign language, cued speech and visual supports as needed
  • Knowledgeable in using strategies that enhance communication in a classroom setting, field trips and unstructured parts of the school day
  • Experience in working with assistive technologies in the classroom

  • Highest level of formal education.
  • Courses, seminars, and specialized training related to required skills.
  • Experience related to the position.
  • Other skills and abilities applicable to the position.
