Your Opportunity:


This position reports to the Facility Manager and is responsible for the hands-on completion of work assignments using good judgment in accordance with all applicable codes and Hospital Policies and Procedures.

The Horticulturist is responsible for year-round grounds keeping including snow removal, skilled horticultural work relating to the care of interior and exterior plants.

Implements horticultural maintenance programs, recommends, and implements design and development of landscape. Required duties will also consist of removing unsightly trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting grounds.

This position is required to operate mobile grounds / snow clearing equipment; to direct and assign assisting staff as required.

The primary location will be at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, but if an event unfolds, this person may be asked to work at other sites within the zone.

Potential multi-site duties as directed by FM&E Director or Manager.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recognized two-year program in Horticulture or equivalent i.e., Master gardener. Valid Class 5 Driver's License. Must comply with Alberta Health Services regulations, policies and procedures. Must comply with Alberta OH&S Act, regulations and code. Must be able to work in physically demanding environments. Must be physically fit and able to lift heavy objects. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to identify and prioritize maintenance needs. Experience with materials and equipment associated with Grounds.

Must be able to communicate clearly in English, both written and verbal Must have computer skills, knowledge about Microsoft programs, and building maintenance programs.

The ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment is essential for this position. Must be able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with management, supervisory staff and hospital co-workers.

Preferred Qualifications:

Pesticide applicator license is preferred.
